He didn't really take any bombs until the 13th rd, his speed confused and befuddled Louis who was a far more deliberate mover than Tyson, As soon as Louis connected flush it was "all she wrote for Billy".
Baer fought Louis 8 months later and he fought no one in between so how do you arrive at this opinion? You could argue Simon had done so.
Have you guys lost your brain? Correct, the younger Louis was a little better offensive, sharper and quicker fighter. (Side info: On the other hand, what does it tell about Rocki prooving against an so called modern HW TEN YEARS LATER???) Past prime Tyson at the comparable stage of Tillman, Stewart and Ruddock would crush that 174pounder down his bicycle! Ratliff - Tyson 2.
Conn was a nervous fighter at the start of the fight. Louis did hurt him but he survived, gained confidence, and was leading by a nice margin after 12 rounds. Conn was one TOUGH fighter. He would have to be an underdog vs most hwt champions but that’s not the point. They don’t make fighters like Conn anymore.
I didnt say he didn't take punches, he just didnt take fight ending punches until the13th rd. For example Conn was hurt by a left hook in the 3rd and was cut over his right eye and over his nose.
The version of Conn who fought Louis most likely gets bullied onto the ropes by Tyson, drilled with a combo of hooks and uppercuts to the body and head, and then sparked out by headshots he never sees coming. Early.
I'm sure you would say the same with Louis, but somehow he couldn't do that. Conn wasn't easy to bully onto the ropes and he was crafty enough to stay away from dangerous punches. Thinking that Conn would get KO-ed in first round is premature.
He certainly looks quicker against big slow HW from 1980s, but I'm not sure he would look quicker against LHW like Conn.
