Hey now I think the vodka free Kov 2.0 is rock solid and will blow Yarde away. But I stand by what I said that it wasn't pretty last time he fought in Russia. He was not impressive, and I understand part of that had to do with the style he was dealing with. Him being back in the motherland affected him negatively in that fight. Maybe he will learn from that, maybe not.
In all honesty I don't know much about yarde My limited knowledge is he has won his fights handily and got highly ranked in the WBO. However he hasn't beaten anyone noteworthy. Has he displayed any serious weaknesses or flaws? I guess right now we don't really know what hes capable of or do we? We know kovalevs weaknesses does yardes style and attributes create an interesting clash on his behalf Also would you pick him to beat Ramirez
Wow, that was a smart move by Bob to negotiate (with Yarde and his team) a possible Canelo vs. Kovalev fight in advance.
Very dangerous fight for Kovalev. Yarde has the talent to beat Kovalev at this point of his career. I pick Yarde to get the upset!
Kovalev was about to sign the contract but eventually got the fine print translated by a scholar (it was in medieval Spanish). ''Though Mr Kovalev shall have no limit on his rehydration weight, he shall be allowed no other fluids besides Vodka until the fight walk.'' Kovalev actually still considered, hearing the Vodka would be supplied free, but Duva stepped in.
I wouldn’t mind if Yarde had actually fought some tough opposition to earn his shot at Kovalev and the wbo title but he’s fought absolute nobodies! Even fights for the British and European title would’ve been good preparation for a world title shot. Oh well, krusher will stop Yarde in 4 or 5 rounds and I’ll say ‘I told you so’ to a lot of idiots on here
Whilst Tunde is clearly an asshat, Yarde needs to take some responsibility for apparently letting him have so much control over his career.
I'm not really sure Yarde would fancy Ramirez: Zurdo has a style (long and rangy, controls fights with the jab) which I think would be all wrong for Yarde, and would probably view Ramirez as high risk / low financial reward anyway. He'd need to be absolutely sure he was being paid too dollar before taking a mooted fight with Ramirez.
For his body size and shape, Yarde has a very small head, which can create a lot of torque and whip when on the receiving end of big shots. It's no mystery that boxers who have heads which look far too small for their body, as Yarde has, end up being ironed out in truly spectacular fashion at some point in time.
I agree with this, Warren, Mendy and Tunde could've at least gradually stepped Yarde up, and got him fights against one or two fringe World level fighters before signing to fight Kovalev. Fighting Latvian and Hungarian pushovers and dragging Nikola Szekloca up from Super Middle is hardly ideal preparation for Kovalev.
He hasn't shown any significant weaknesses because he hasn't fought anyone of the level to expose them. The main thing I have noticed is how much weight he often leaves on his front foot, if he fought someone who decided to let their hands go when he let his hands go (Ruiz style) I could see him getting caught flush and often. Although having said this, maybe he wouldn't plant his feet as much against someone like Kovalev and would choose to be lighter on his feet. When someone makes such a huge jump up in levels it is just so difficult to gage how you think they will fare. Often they need to make a few slight adjustments because the jump in levels means the slightest flaw will get exposed all night. I would expect to see a complete different Yarde from the one we have seen up until now.
Technically Yarde is very basic. His power certainly SEEMS reasonably legit, so that's something I guess.
