It's rare that posters will admit, "fair cop I got it wrong" for instance almost every poster seemed to "always rate fury" yet I distinctly remember nobody rating him back in the day. But in this thread let's come clean. I'll start off. Hughie Fury I bought into this lad for some reason and I don't know why. Sure he could move a bit but that was about it wasn't it. Count me in the "once he gets his man strength. ." Camp.
Is this about Fury or any fight? I got Tyson-Holmes wrong. I thought Larry was still young enough and had the type of style to beat Mike, especially since he didn't seem to do so great with patient jab-combination-and-clinch types. That fight was a heartbreaker for me, especially since the TKO came right after Larry showed a flash of his former genius.
I get it wrong a lot. Like most people. Boxing is a seriously unpredictable sport. I rarely get it "completely" wrong though. In recent memory my worst shout was that I genuinely thought Lucas Browne would knock out Whyte. I seriously overestimated Browne based on a few past performances. Mate, give Hughie some time. He's 24 years old. He has at least five more fights before he starts to reach his prime. Just to put his ability into context, in my opinion Parker beat Ruiz more clearly than he did against Hughie. And look at Ruiz now. Parker had Whyte on silly street in the 12th round and he barely landed a glove on Hughie. Hughie is ridiculously talented. He just needs to put it all together. That blend between elusiveness and aggression will come as he gets a few more fights under his belt. He needs the right opponent and he will win a world title. For what it's worth, if you put Ruiz and Hughie Fury in against each other now, Hughie wins on points. I would put money on that. Ruiz isn't coming close to hurting Hughie.
I thought Canelo was bang average cause he didn't impress against Rhodes and Hatton Wasn't convinced Wilder was that big of a puncher..Thought he was just knocking over cans. Thought Witter would go further than he did...more cause of style than his punch power
Good shout. I was badly wrong in the Selby fight. Thought Selby would school him. But I did fancy Warrington to beat Frampton.
Yeah I from what I had seen of Warrington was that he was a European level fighter at best...proved me wrong.
I thought Pacquaio could roll back the years and give Floyd a hell of a fight. Thirty seconds in and I knew I'd gotten it horribly wrong. Heart ruled my head.
Seconded for Canelo. Was not impressed at all with his performances against Rhodes and Hatton. I fancied Robin Reid to do a job on Lacy, who I thought was way overrated. It's probably not possible to be more wrong while still being half-right. I expected Hamed to dominate his era, and thought that Barrera at every point in his career was made for him. I put a big bet on Maidana to stop Khan in the 10th round. Probably the most animated I've ever been at that time in the morning.
I remember huge amounts of money piling in on Hatton to beat Floyd...........loads got caught up in the hype. if memory serves Ricky was around 15/8 come fight night...........ridiculous looking back.
I thought Groves would take Callum Smith to school. I thought Joshua would KO Ruiz whenever he chose to.
What's crazy is that after beating paulie and getting rocked by lascano people thought he'd beat pac man You can almost forgive them for the floyd fight but sheesh
Groves vs Smith - Thought Groves would win on points on a SD. O'hara Davies vs Josh Taylor (don't ask) - Thought Ohara would catch him on the way in with something big. Selby v Warrington - Predicted Warrington punching thin air all night and Selby would coast to a wide UD. Brook vs Spence - Felt Spence wouldn't have his normal weight advantage and for some reason I thought the GGG fight would have actually helped Brook when things got tough - probably the opposite. Wilder vs Ortiz - I really do not see the fuss about Ortiz and the 'bogeyman' label is a load of **** but I literally spent the week in the build up to that fight telling everyone he would stop Wilder. I promise I get some fights right...
