If we played by the 10 point must system that's a 10-8 for me. Chill champ or it'll be first round ko
Yes, some picked Ruiz. One of the mods here, CST80, picked Ruiz. I'd like to know of the few who picked Ruiz, how many times had they picked against Joshua in previous fights though ? Often, you'll find these guys who "get it right" at a big upset were going against that same fighter in dozens of previous fights. I think people who reckoned Ruiz had "zero chance" were probably pretty ignorant though. People who know boxing knew Ruiz was pretty good and would have given him at least a bit of a chance.
Fury has been picking against Joshua for years lol. And I think a few people thought Ruiz would give him trouble but AJ would come through it. I personally thought it was gonna go the same way as the Povetkin fight.
Yeah, I still don't think that even from the few who backed Ruiz, thought it would be that dominating. I knew Ruiz was game, but I still thought AJ was too strong for him and I based that off what I saw from the Povetkin fight. AJ had a cold, wasn't top form, and yet handily dealt Pov no problems.
I wanted to see Ruiz pull off a miracle, just because it would have made for a great night of boxing (and for the year), but I truly didn't think he'd pull it off. What a great champion he is now!
Yeah, I just figured Joshua, despite all his flaws, would have enough boxing ability to beat Ruiz due to Ruiz having such short arms and not particularly fast feet. I knew Joshua was easy to hit and has trouble dealing with any sort of attack that utilizes angles but I guess I underestimated Ruiz's ability to close the gap and probably didn't reckon on him having such a good chin either. Still, I certainly didn't figure Ruiz to have "zero chance" or be a mismatched opponent. I was actually pleased Ruiz was getting in there instead of Miller (who I DID give "zero chance" or thereabouts ... but maybe I'm wrong about MIller !)
You are wrong. Miller like Ruiz would have walked AJ down from the get go, make him fight and expend energy, IMO Miller has a good chin so he can take a punch and has a excellent engine for the man of his size......the Bodybuilder would have collapsed from the pace, we all knew his chin is shid and he cannot think on his feet........but what nobody knew is that he has a lot of QUIT in him when the going gets rough. Ruiz raised his hands before the referee waved it off when he saw AJ standing in the corner with his no mas body language.
Jarrell Miller's really slow though. He'd be fast slower to retaliate than Ruiz was so Joshua would have landed big punches with nothing really coming back, I imagine. Maybe I'm wrong. We won't know for sure unless they fight.
Go look at the weigh-in thread. When Fat Boy waddled in there was, rightfully, skepticism that he had any realistic chance. Same as Buster Douglas when he came in so heavy for Holyfield.
