Break into today’s top 10? Just a few come to mind.

    Tyson
    Spinks
    Norton
    Weaver
    Shavers
    Cooney
    Berbick
    Williams
    Witherspoon
    Smith
    Holyfield
    Mercer
    McCall

Have you also got a specific placing for these fighters? Some of these guys would really struggle in today`s game.

I meant at the time Holmes fought them, Ali had parkinson`s disease when he was dominated by Holmes.

Tex Cobb and Leroy Jones would probably make today's top 10 too.
I mean, they can't be any worse than the likes of Jarrell Miller, Adam Kownacki or even Dillian Whyte !

The guys he didn't fight would be top 10 heavyweights. Dokes, Thomas, Tate, Coetzee, Page. Looking back the early to mid 80s hw division was very good. It's just that it followed the magical 70s. And also it was overshadowed by the action in welter and middleweight with Hagler, Hearns, Duran and Leonard.

Even Leon Spinks and Marvis Frazier could get ranked.

Yup. Leon Spinks was one of the worst world champions but he could bring the fire and brimstone. For him to make top 10 today would not be inconceivable at all.

You only really need one half-decent win over a solid "fringe" contender type to get a ranking in the division right now. Or a few wins over some recognizable has-beens.

Plenty of them would have had a real chance of being at least the 10th best fighter in today’s era (or any other era).

Seems like that's been true for about as long as there have been heavyweight rankings....

Ocasio would be coming off two wins over Jimmy Young. He earned his spot.

Jimmy was coming off a split decision loss to Norton and a little over a year removed from beating Foreman.
