[1927 article] Sharkey on Dempsey's Power

Sharkey added, “I was the only fighter to fight Dempsey and Louis. Who hit me hardest? Dempsey hit me the hardest because Dempsey hit me $211,000 worth while Louis only hit me $36,000 worth"
If so, it is hardly definitive is it?
On another boxing site last year you made some statements .
Here they are.
"A few years ago I found an article from a local newspaper in the 50's that interviewed Jack Sharkey. Several very interesting points he made:

1). Dempsey punchfor punch hit harder than Joe Louis. Louis was the better combination puncher.

2). Regarding getting hit by Dempsey...."I never thought anyone could hit that hard".

3). Elaborating further concerning Dempsey punching power..."When Dempsey hit you on the shoulder he broke your shoulder. When he hit you to the body it felt as if his fist came out your back. When he hit you on the hip he dislocated your hip".

I always heard that Sharkey never picked Dempsey or Louis over one another in terms of punching power BUT in this interview he was very clear who he felt was the more powerful puncher."
When asked to produce the providence for them you stated,you didn't retain the article..

"This was a few years ago. I did not retain the article. There is a nice audio of Sharkey on YOUTUBE discussing Dempsey punching power. He reiterates his quote above concerning how damaging Dempsey blows were."
These above were posts made by you in March last year .

You keep telling posters here to." do some research",and ,"study up",but , when asked
to provide sources for your assertions you do not do so.
Surely you must realize that without a primary source such statements are worthless?
I, and I am sure the rest of the thread posters, would really appreciate you producing these verified quotes.

 

I need to do all the work for you? Get off your butt and look at the newspaper accounts yourself. The referee of the fight was adamant regarding the three uppercuts to the body.

There is a video on YouTube we’re Sharkey discusses Dempsey’s punching power. He repeats some of the quotes from the article in question.

 

This is how it works a poster makes a statement another poster disagrees with that statement and asks the original poster for proof of his assertion. The original poster has now two options.
1. He can provide the primary source from which he derived his statement , thereby proving it to be correct.
2.He can bluster and fake irritation with the poster who has asked for proof , because he knows he does not have the said required proof.
You have chosen the 2nd option.
To simplify matters even further, when you make a statement the onus is on you to substantiate it,in other words the burden of proof lies with you, not the poster who has called into question the veracity of your assertions.

 

There is an audio on YouTube where Sharkey reiterated his comments that if “Dempsey hit you to the body it felt as if his fist came out your back”...etc.

 

There is no extant quote from Jack Sharkey in which he states Dempsey hit harder per se than Joe Louis.

 

Certainly is. Sharkeys comments mirrored Walcott’s comments when comparing Louis and Marciano.

Louis was the better combination puncher while Dempsey hit harder blow by blow.

 

Come on mate. I actually find quite a few of @mrkoolkevin s posts annoying, but you need to post the source. Atleast he specifies.

Jack Sharkey is quoted as saying this via the AP in the Biddeford Daily Journal March 8, 1945
"The best I met, in order, were Jack Dempsey, Harry Wills, Tommy Loughran, Young Stribling, Mike McTigue, Max Schmeling, Joe Louis, Jimmy Maloney, Jack Delaney and George Godfrey".

It's kinda of interesting, because in the interview for the NCR computer fight between Jack Sharkey and Bob Fitzsimmons, Louis gave Sharkey a lot of credit. They sadly seem to have been taken down, and the Dempsey Louis one probably would have had some interesting comments from Sharkey.

"Something hits the floor. Who is it? Louis. From my experience I figure Dempsey would be the winner — maybe a first round knockout."

 

These were probably quotes immediate post fight, right ?
I think a day or two later Sharkey would be hurting pretty badly.

Fighters often don't feel hurt during fights but 24 or 48 hours later they are hurting like hell.

I'm stating the obvious but someone had to say it.

 

You don’t see punches to Sharkeys groin during that three punch sequence.

Ref stated that both men were hitting low but nothing flagrant or intentional. Neither fighter nor corner complained about low blows during the fight. All as per the ref who was in the ring with both men and described the three body blows exactly as they were. Three right uppercuts.
