Quintana was taller than Pac, and Williams had a bad night. We saw what happened in the rematch.

Williams would have likely outpointed Pac easily with the work rate from a distance. Freddie Roach even said that Williams was too big for Pac back when Williams was at welterweight.

Williams said that he wanted to fight Pacquiao. Sadly, he got a serious accident before the fight could really happen. If the fight had happened, Williams would have beaten Pacquiao by UD. He had physical advantages.

Don't get me wrong.. Williams was a great fighter.. But he's looked at abit through rose tinted glasses... He had stamina to burn.. Reach of a heavyweight... Respectable power and dimensions that would give the welterweights especially fits... But I would expect the elites of the era in Floyd and pacquiao to be able to beat him.

Williams had all the dimensions but didn't use them .. Massive reach... But seemed to prefer close quarters.... Not the best defense... Quite open to being countered.

Your right about the emphatic ko of quintana second time round basically saying quintana fluked the fight first time round... But he fought a good fight n gave Williams fits..... I just feel like pacquiao would be in and out and be a right pain in Williams ass.... Competitive but I'd favour the pac of 2008, 2009....floyd would do what floyd always did to Williams

Can anybody find the old video from Paul's team celebrating on camera after finishing the phonecall that came from Pacquiao's team, saying that Pacquiao wants to fight Paul next? It was taken before the Martinez rematch.

I remember seeing a video going roughly along those lines a long ago, that's why I asked if anyone can find it. I'm looking for it on youtube right now but I can't find it. The only thing I was able to find at the moment was Roach mentioning Williams as the next Pacquiao's opponent if Paul could make 147. This happened after the Margarito fight:

But I still want to find the video I'm talking about so bad

I'm not trying to convince anyone to trust me on it, you have all the rights not to trust me being that I'm not able to present you the proof, so it's all good, Pacquiao's resume is already superior to any other resume even without him fighting Williams, I was just honestly hoping if anyone could find the video I remember was (roughly) going the way I described it above.

Every time Pac leapt forward to throw P-Will would have kicked a big dark footprint in his bright yellow jumpsuit.

Williams would murder Pacquiao his style and workrate is all wrong for Pac. Williams chin was almost unfair when being hit by welters, no way Pac wins.

Everyone keeps bringing up his height and reach.... When the **** did he use any of those attributes? Dude loved to brawl.
Lets look at some of the more crafty guys Williams faced:

Carlos Quintana was slightly taller than Manny and Floyd.
But the key that night was that Quintana outboxed Williams on the outside. Williams had no idea how to properly close the distance, or how to cut off the ring. Quintana kept hammering Williams with the same left hand that Martinez put him to sleep with, and Lara schooled him with.

    Verno Phillips.
This is another fight where Paul Williams showed that he had no footwork. He literally just walked forward. That is all he did.
And Williams rarely let his hands go unless he got up close. On the outside all he did was:
    - Flash the probing jab when out of range.
    - Double up on the jab and follow with a straight right.
    - Throw a sweet right hook to the body. It was actually a really good move to settle his opponent. Keep them still for a moment.
But that was the extent of Williams' arsenal. It was limited and predictable.
And on the inside Phillips was able to tie Williams up with ease. (***** move but Floyd!)
All in all, Williams got going once Verno slowed down and was not able to keep moving around him. But even then in the 7th round, Williams was eating a lot counter from Verno on the ropes and in the corner. This again highlighted Wialliams defensive flaws.

    FrogMan Cintron

Before his infamous leap from the ring, Kermit was landing some beautiful counters on WIlliams. Williams whose main defense was to pull his head back out of range. But more importantly, Kermit ****ing out jabbed him  And all that talk about his reach. GTFO!

    Santos Pakau
One of the few fights where Williams actually had some spring in his legs.
But the main focus here is:
    - Pakau had no issues tying Williams up.
    - Williams jab was noneffective at long range.
    - Williams main line of defense was to pull his head back. This allowed Pakau to land quite a few "free" shots.

All in all, Williams is massively overrated. At least the one who campaigned at 147 or near it.
His defense was poor. He had no footwork. Predictable lines of offense. Shitty jab. And he never set up any of his combinations. On the inside he would just let his hands go.
No feints, no probes, no nothing. Just jab, jab, right hand. Get close and let some combos go.

Paul Williams got out jabbed by Kermit Cintron
    Made for good fight tho.

Quintana, Lara and Martinez exploited the same flaw. Says a lot about Williams.
Manny is different, but he would have exposed Williams lack of footwork and ability to fight on the inside. Margarito had better defense on the inside than Williams.
