This study shows why certain boxes that have tried modern bareknuckle fighting can`t punch with their full force, why do fans feel boxers don`t punch hard barefisted?

I didn't watch the video, but I'm guessing he says it's because guys actually value not breaking their hands?

didn't watch either but think the same, plus it hurts more to hit bare-knuckle so naturally you won't try to unload as hard but with gloves you will give it everything

The other byproduct would be a higher emphasis on body punching and lower guards as a result

Having punched people in the face without gloves before, I can testify that breaking your hands really sucks and probably feels worse for longer than getting punched in the face.

I think any boxer thinking of transitioning to bareknuckle fighting should have about six months of hand conditioning at least, to condition the hand bones for the repeated impact without the protection of the gloves and wrap. If there is a legit Martial Arts Master in the area, check in with them for proper iron body hardening techniques.

Yup, and if you fracture your hand -- in between knuckles and dont get it properly reset and let it heal right, it breaks so much easier everytime you hit with it thereafter. Swells to a watermelon, rinse, repeat.

I didn’t watch the video but Bobby Gunn is a undefeated bare knuckle boxer, he never won anything significant in boxing.

What kind of idiot hits with his first 2 knuckles? the guy on the video has no clue about what he's talking about. What the heck!

Bareknuckle boxing was phased out quickly because smashing your hand off a mans forehead will break it.

it didn't take long for them to start wrapping the hands, even gypo's who practice it in carparks to this day wear padding on their knuckles.

    No longevity, not a sport.

You think cracking a hand off a forehead sounds bad? try missing a hook to the body and hitting a pelvis instead. no fun.

The instant pain and dread of "oh damn i've dun goofed" and it's not exactly easy to hide that pain.

Well put, and happens a lot to well-trained fighters. Once targets become static as opposed to stationary, accurate placement becomes much harder and other skills gain far more importance.

I grew up in Limerick where the travelling community are big in bareknuckle fighting.

Its actually not that great a spectacle. The reason gloves were added is to make more boxing MORE exciting.

Boxers can throw more punches and not worry about constantly breaking their hands
