lol. what hogwash .. Chaggy was never renowned for his speed . In that video he is clearly way slower than Ruiz whose fast hands have been been his trademark asset since he hit the world stage. Chaggy was slow against Wlad , he pushes his punches and had no jab. Ruiz has an a very decent jab thrown with speed , snap and purpose. He uses it to great effect while cutting off the ring. Southpaw Chaggy fought an unbelievably stupid fight by trying to box Wlad from the outside. He then attacked in straight lines and fell back after every punch. Ruiz who has much better footwork and knows how to apply educated pressure would not fall back once he cut the distance , rather he would follow up with combos thrown at blistering speed. Ruiz is far more comparable to Povetkin than southpaw Chagaev who stood there at mid range letting Wlad tee-off freely on his computer. We all saw how Wlad hadn't the skills to keep Povetkin on the outside , he wouldn't just suddenly have the skills to keep Ruiz off him either. He would have to replicate the exact same cheat fest to win. A fair ref who denies Wlad any illegal holding would allow Ruiz get inside to work him over which would result in Clinchko collapsing like he did against Brewster. Peter and Povetkin showed that Wlad can't handle pressure. Chaggy didn't and couldn't apply pressure anywhere near as effectively as Ruiz would.. Once again - - Chaggy boxed Wlad from the outside with a 74 inch reach !!
Ruslan Chagaev looked slow because Wladimir Klitschko made him look slow, because he is that much faster than Joshua. Andy Ruiz Jr looked fast against Joshua because Joshua made him look fast, because he is that much slower than Wladimir Klitschko. The same is the case with foot-work, Wlad's foot-work is that much better than Joshua's, which is why Chagaev's footwork looked worse against Wlad than Ruiz's footwork did against Joshua. Andy Ruiz Jr did nothing special against Joshua, except for being very durable and fast for his size (which is what Chagaev also would be relative to Joshua). Look, Joshua lost the same way he lost in the amateurs against Mihai Nistor. Ruiz Jr did more or less the same thing. Chagaev can do all of those things. You're painting Ruiz Jr to be something that he is not. Joshua simply has been the same fighter all along. He's not changed one bit. He struggles just as much against short heavyweights now, as he did THEN. Even Takam was going to potentially beat him by forcing Joshua to gas, had Joshua not been awarded the British stoppage. Chagaev would've done a repeat of what Ruiz Jr did to Joshua. The Wlad that fought Chagaev was ABSOLUTE prime Wlad, not comparable to the washed-up Wlad that fought Povetkin. Even then, Wlad carried Povetkin when he literally had him out with his first partially landed left-hook in the 2nd round. Wlad DECIDED to not KO Povetkin in front of his own Russian fans. You are aware that Chagaev and Povetkin are both very comparable to each-other too? Povetkin and Chagaev had a very close fight that was close to being a draw. Ruiz, Povetkin, Chagaev and Mihai Nistor are all comparable to each other and there is very little that separates any of them. But what do they have that is common? They are all a nightmare to Joshua due to his weaknesses against shorter opponents, but no so much for Wladimir Klitschko who had far superior footwork and distance control to dominate shorter opponents.
If Joushua would have taken his time a bit better in the third he'd have beat Ruiz he ran into a shot and was never the same.
Ruiz has much faster hands than Areaola, moves in quicker, and the intensity of his attack is greater. His defense is also far better due to constant head movement and evasive footwork.
Josh and Vlad have one thing in common-a glass jaw. Having a glass jaw and challenging Ruiz to a boxing match is not a good idea.
