How could I forget!! Big David Price I bought into the "Klitschkos only beat up fat midgets and Wlad's chin is total glass" Big Dave was 6'7" in shape with big time power, how could he fail?
Bute to beat Froch. Always been a massive Froch fan But that Ward loss made me lose some faith, and Lucien Bute was in his prime, undefeated, a big puncher and looked a future P4Per . I thought Froch was gonna lose. I never doubted him again after that!!
Eubank jr vs degale. I knew degale was shot to bits but thought he’d still have enough to deal with eubank.
Same here: everything about Audley in general, really. Thinking he would become World champion one day. Thinking he had the beating of Danny Williams before their first fight. Thinking he had a decent shot against Haye if he took a few calculated risks early and let his hands go. Buying into Haye's hype and believing he would beat Wlad and walk through Bellew in their first fight. Thinking that Selby would turn up and cruise to a wide UD against Warrington. Thinking that Mike Tyson, despite being for all intents and purposes, finished, still had enough left to bowl over Danny Williams. Believing that Broner, after stopping Tony DeMarco at 135, had what it took to go on and become pound for pound number one. Believing that, although Tyson Fury would beat Wladimir (due to having an awkward style and very noticeably getting in Wlad's head in the buildup), he wouldn't do so convincingly enough to get the nod in Germany and, as a result, would end up getting robbed on the scorecards (I must admit, I was delighted to have been wrong about that one).
I agree with this. If anything, Reid, despite coming into the fight without a proper camp, exposed Lacy and showed Calzaghe the blueprint to beating him.
Plenty of hardcore UFC / MMA fans were lumping on McGregor big time as well. It's because of those schmucks slavishly backing McGregor out of some misguided sense of loyalty that I was able to back Floyd at odds of 1/4.
If you want to be technical about it, Tyson Fury at 50% won 10 of the 12 rounds and did beat Wilder; he just didn't get the nod on the scorecards for some inexplicable reason.
A lot of the obvious ones have been said already. Going back a few years here, but I thought Edison Miranda would destroy Kelly Pavlik when they fought, but instead he got taken to pieces. Miranda had looked like a beast up until that fight and had just been robbed against Arthur Abraham, while Pavlik came in not having ever been tested. Pavlik schooled him and Miranda’s career never really kicked in afterwards
Some recent fights I called wrong in a way was telling a casual mate of mine that bjs v lemiux was a 50/50, whyte browne was a 50/50 and that Ortiz will beat wilder. I still refuse to write Ortiz off. If he hurts wilder I don't think wilder gets as many favours this time round. Ortiz will hurt wilder first
You were not alone. Hopkins was an old man ready to drop his crown; and I was right... Just not against Eastman! And little did I know, this 'old man' would have another decade in him at the top!
Hardly anyone thought Fury would become the best heavyweight in the world, I certainly didn't after arguably losing a decision to john McDermott, getting dropped by nevin pavjik, also against Cunningham, and just looking sloppy in a lot of early fights. Even travelling to germany to support him against klitschko myself or anyone else I spoke to didn't think he'd actually win. I also put money on ryan Rhodes to beat canelo by UD!
