Trust me, I'm not interested in debating anything with you. I'm just trying to gain a better understanding of the logic that lets fanboys so emphatically pick and choose some quotes over others.

You’re a fanboy. I’m a boxing historian. You chose your likes and dislikes via your gut feel or prejudice. I decide upon the historical truth via analysis of the history. I actually place Dempsey bottom to 5 of my top ten with Ali, Louis , Holmes etc ahead of him. Dempsey however was a brutal and savage puncher with a unique skill set.

Sharkeys moniker “The Boston Gob” was given to him in part because he was always complaining. During his bout with Carnera as just one example after he knockdown Carnera down Sharkey causes a turmoil running over to the ref demanding Carnera be DQed for getting up and then going down again. He also was the first and only fighter to win the championship on a DQ. Then we have the attempt to DQ with Dempsey, then a DQ win vs Wills. Get a pattern? Dempsey’s corner people raised a concern that Sharkey May claim foul based upon his past of doing just that. They cited several examples which I do not remember but will try locating the quote.

It’s very very obvious Kevin you have zero historical perspective regarding boxing history. Unfortunately this has not improved one iota. You want history to be what you believe it was not interested in doing the hard but rewarding work to determine what it actually was.

Also Sharkey had five DQ wins in his career. Add to this what he tried to pull with Dempsey. He wanted Carnera DQed as well. Those at the time refer to he wearing his trunks high to make it look as if legit body blows were low.....,, in order to avoid body punishment.

Error....Schmeling in his bout with Sharkey won via DQ. Not Sharkey himself.

New York Times (the day before the bout)

Leo P Flynn, chief trainer if Dempsey has concerns over Sharkey claiming foul. “Sharkey claimed he was being fouled when he fought Maloney, Gorman and Godfrey. I am not letting him get away with it tomorrow night”.

Going into his bout with Dempsey Sharkey had four wins by DQ.

Nope! Sharkey got his nick name The Boston Gob because his family moved from New York ,his birthplace ,and settled in Boston and the fact that he was an ex sailor as in Gob! How wrong can you be? His other nick name was The Weeping Lithuanian a reference to his heritage, and his emotional outbursts during and after some fights. Ive already covered his reaction in the Carners FIRST fight which you did not specify ,but it was .
Sharkey did NOT win the title on a dsq, he won it on a highly disputed decision given by GunBoat Smith ,the referee and sole arbiter.
Wills was getting a bad beating from Sharkey ,at no time was he in the fight and so he resorted to foul tactics in this instance back handing several times leaving the referee with no alternative but to sling him out which saved him from being counted out later.
Sharkey did NOT try to get Carnera dsq'd , he wanted Smith to count him out!.
"So then I started to revert back to the old style of Dempsey, weave ,bob ,and roll.
like Frazier.Boom the guy is on the floor! I retreat to my corner,so I see Carnera get up and I started to rush for Carnera, and GunBoat Smith grabs me and puts his arms around me.He got up,I started to run in,he goes down the minute I started to run in..I couldn't convince the referee Smith what had happenedbecause his abck was to him.I couldn't explain to thereferee that the guy got up andwhenI rushed him went down. That automatically is a tko.Inthe meantime I was upset,I was as erratic as hell and I started to go through the ropes.Buckley stuck his big fat belly there and I continued on another 11 rds"
    Jack Sharkey. Taped interview1971

Congratulations on getting ALL FOUR OF THESE WRONG HISTORIAN! LOL
    HIstorian? More like hystericalman!

Again you are just finding basic info. As follows:

    Grantland Rice (1928) Chicago Tribune:
Sharkey, “The Boston Gob” earned his moniker in part due to his constant complaining during his bouts.....”

Red Smith New York Tribune 1952

“Sharkeys complaints during bouts whether they be for low blows or any other real or imagined infringement lent him the moniker if “The Boston Gob”.

Going into his bout with Dempsey Sharkey had four bouts that he won via DQ. (4 out of 24 total wins). That’s quite a bit so Dempsey’s trainers concern was based upon a history.

    This is totally wrong.
ps The first dsq win on Sharkey's record was because his opponent went down 4 times without being hit.Hardly Sharkeys fault!
The Gorman dsq was the result of a blatant low blow in the first round Sharkey did not complain about it, he never had time!
I've already covered the Wills one ,where he was dsq'd for deliberate backhanding when on the verge of being stopped. Again not Sharkey's fault!
BTW Rice called Dempsey's 7thrd punches low in the Sharkey fight

Again you know zip. Cursory knowledge does not provide the depth of doing the work. Sharkey had four DQ wins going into his bout with Dempsey. More than most any other worlds hwt champion I believe since Willard after only 32 total bouts.

He was a very good puncher who often sold out in the early rounds.

Perhaps you need to do some real research.

    Ahhhh

    Minnesota Star, October 21, 1956

“Jack Sharkey, former worlds heavyweight boxing champion, is in town to teach a fly fishing class at the Auditorium...... “

“Asked about his bouts with Jack Dempsey Mr Sharkey had plenty to say. I think I still feel the left hook Dempsey hit me with. I never thought anyone could hit that hard. With Dempsey if he hit you on the shoulder he broke your shoulder, if he hit you to the body it felt as if his fist was coming out your back. If he hit you on the hip he broke your hip. He was always coming at you and no matter what you tried to do he would keep on the attack..........”

“I’m always asked who hit harder Louis or Dempsey. Dempsey I would say hit harder punch for punch but Louis was the better combination hitter.”

And here is an audio around the eight minute mark. I thought this was deleted from YouTube but I found it. Note how Sharkey emphasizes Dempsey’s power.
