Everybody inducing Golovkin knew that Canelo was a burst boxer who took rounds off.

It was only during Canelos energy conservation phases that Golovkin was able to find success. Golovkin should have beat , or have been prepared to beat Canelo into the ground when his workrate dipped , but fighting him on almost even terms was the best he was able to manage.

While Ganelo had the energy he clearly separated himself from Golovkin in terms of skill. If he had old school stamina and endurance he would have turned GGG into paste. :angryyell::smile:

Without Peds for Clenelo... GGG is the better boxer. With Peds for Clenelo...GGG is the better boxer.

PEDs have nothing to do with it. Just an excuse to avoid answering the question, because we all know who the better boxer is.

No. "we don't all know who the better boxer is." Hence the diversity of stated opinions. However, with or without peds GGG is the better boxer. The better fighter also.

I still think the idea that Canelo has stamina problems or gasses is hugely exaggerated. You look at the kinds of shots he's landing, the kind of energy he expends throughout a fight, or in the case of the first GGG fight, the consistent footwork he was using, of course he's going to tire himself out. When you load up on a big shots, take some of those shots Canelo got in in the middle rounds of the first GGG bout, even a single shot that he tagged GGG with, it would tire anyone out. No one just throws a haymaker in the midst of 12 grueling rounds and then is as fresh as a daisy the next second.

GGG was conserving his stamina in both fights, while Canelo was loading up with big shots. If GGG tried to land bombs on Canelo he'd gass out too, and much quicker than Canelo. It takes a lot more energy to throw the kinds of eye catching shots Canelo landed on GGG than the kind of basic shots GGG landed on Canelo. Canelo's punches are dynamic coming from sharp angles. GGG's are just basic one twos down the pike. If you shadow box and throw basic one-twos you're not going to tire. But if you shadow box and start dipping your body and throwing uppercuts and hooks at odd angles with power behind them, you'll tire real quick. It's not hard. Canelo's stamina is not a problem. He is in the upper echelon when it comes to stamina and endurance.

Sure we do. Who is a better fighter is more debatable.

Pillars of being a better boxer : Defense, skill at avoiding shots with upper body movement, skill at counter punching, footwork, ability to skillfully block and parry shots. GGG has a better jab, that's about it. In all other areas of being a boxer, Canelo is superior. Canelo can go to the ropes and fight off the ropes. GGG can't. Canelo is more athletic and can utilize upper body movement. GGG can't. Canelo can throw dyanmic uppercuts, hooks out of nowhere, can set traps. GGG can't. GGG is a very basic boxer. Good at being basic, but limited. Canelo is a dynamic top level highly skilled boxer who can do things that GGG can't.

GGG constant non stop pressure closing the ring down every second of every round is what he’s generally done throughout his career. l’d say he’s definitely got more stamina than Canelo.

GGG has better footwork than Canelo, closing the ring down plus his measure of distance. He’s always in range of the opponent to be able to land, they can’t get away from him.

He's not expending the kind of energy that Canelo expends though. He's not as athletic as Canelo. He doesn't dip down, he doesn't move his upper body like Canelo does. He doesn't load up with shots coming from odd angles like Canelo does. GGG was visibly red in the face and breathing pretty hard towards the end in both Canelo fights. GGG has an iron chin, but the big shots that Canelo landed on him did tire him out. GGG did apply non stop pressure in the first bout, and he was working hard in there. But again all he was doing was walking forward throwing jabs and straight rights. No body shots, no upper body movement, just basic come forward style with basic punches. That doesn't tire you out like it does if you dip down use upper body movement, and throw hard punches from odd angles.

I still think GGG has better stamina but maybe Canelo’s is underrated. Kell Brook made GGG work a lot and he never stopped coming. Sure it was only 5 rounds but he didn’t look like he was going to slow down massively.

Dude, go look it up. RJJ lost that fight. The judges ruled for the other guy so RJJ lost that fight 100% legit. What matters is what the judges rule, not what actually happens in the ring.

Yeah but the problem is the beating of GGG's life so far was in reality a win for him and (another) loss for Clenelo.

I can’t take anyone seriously who is sure that GGG beat Canelo twice, and uses the excuse that GGG was past prime. I had it 1-1. Asking who is the better boxer is a very simplistic question that can’t really be answered, they’re better at different things. Canelo is more explosive and throws better combinations, so I’m more biased towards that style of boxing. GGG isn’t really exceptional at anything, he’s merely good at everything and stands out because of his power. Both have elite chins.
