How would peak Max Baer fare against these big and strong fighters:

    George Godfrey
    Cleveland Williams
    Ron Lyle
    Razor Ruddock

Williams/Lyle/Ruddock bury him alive.....I could see him beating Godfrey.

By todays standards, Baer is not big, you can eat a ham sandwich until one of his telegraphed rights arrive,is stiff as a board with zero head movement, uses his chin as his only defense and is highly sporadic in performances............plus lost his heart in the dressing room when he was about to meet the only, what I would call . the first real skilled modern Heavy in Louis..........

I would make him a favorite over all, but by a very slim margin in some cases.

Godfrey and Lyle would be the danger men.

    It comes down to this.

Baer is a short reigning lineal champion, with a lot of wins over ranked contenders.

The other guys are very dangerous fighters, who ended up with a paucity of wins over ranked contenders, for one reason or another.

Would it be a stretch to say that Baer should start as favorite in these fights?

A match against Godfrey would be interesting and could go either way, but I’d pick Baer in top form to stop Ruddock, Williams, and Lyle, who all relied too much on their power.

And Baer relied on things other than power?

I'll take any big hitter with a bit of a chin and some skill over Baer. Baer was the Wilder of his age.

Yes he was, but Wilder keeps on winning!

Are their not enough big hitters with a bit of a chin in the world?

He beat better fighters than Wilder even faced. None of the fighters I mentioned had as good chin as Baer.
