I'm a Masvidal fan and obviously you are a huge fan BUT that comment is ridiculous. Yes he has good all round skills and is a very crafty veteran fighter but Masvidal has lost a lot of fights both at 155 and 170, he has lost 2 out of his last 3 don't forget. If you look back over his career the only top fighter he has beaten is Cerrone. Yes he has lost some close decision but he needs to look at his output in many of those fights. Bump my comment if I'm proven wrong and he beats Askren on the weekend.

Khabib don’t want that at 165 or 170
Gsp wants nothing to do with that
Jorge beats both Diaz bros back to back same night.

LOL. I give Masvidal props for an amazing finish. A really scary finish, hope Askren is ok. I am a masvidal fan and expected Askren to ground him out to a decision. I got that one wrong. CLEARLY.

Yeah I was hopeful of this kind of result and while I felt all along Askren was overrated and extremely 1 dimensional I thought there was a chance he could grind out a boring win.
Considering where Askren trains and who he trains with, you would think he would have better or at least adequate enough striking that would make him less predictable then he has been,if he doesn't make the necessary changes there's probably only a couple of guys in the rankings I would favour him to beat

I just seen Paul Felder talk about how training at Duke Roofus gym,Askren picks only certain people to train with which apparently doesn't include Felder or any other good strikers that he could train with which could help his striking, such a waste not to train and learn from the many quality strikers in that gym and explains why he obviously hasn't improved

 Yeah it sure was. Risky but flawless opening move by Masvidal. In truth I think he and his team took that as a calculated risk because they were afraid that if Askren would be hard to deal with if he was able to get his game going. So despite the early and brutal finish that makes this look like a farcical matchup they took Askren very seriously.

How is it risky it was 1 of the more obvious counters to that entry which was as predictable as it get's in a fight and if he hadn't been fighting bums his whole career we likely would have seen it soooner

If it failed if he was getting taken to the mat EARLY while dry. Masvidal and his team obviously drilled that a ton in camp and were willing to take the risk because a)they knew there was a chance Askren would duck right into it and b) they clearly respected his grappling prowess and likely knew that an early KO was their best shot. It was risky - Anyone who understood the dynamics of this fight knows this. As for the latter part of your post I'm not going over with this with you again.

I can assure you of 1 thing he may have respected his grappling but would not been worried about it to the extent they thought an early KO was his only option.
I'm not going to get into a petty arguments with you about who knows what as I have more then shown my knowledge of MMA is as high as anybody,as for Askren everything I said about him as proven to be true.

Never said it was the only option but I think it was something the team wanted and were banking on. As for everything you saying about Askren being true? Objectively false. You claimed he avoided good competition even when confronted with the fact that the only reason he didn't compete in the UFC sooner was because Dana blocked it. Real unbiased view is that Askren is a good talent but a specialist who needs to employ his game in order to succeed - his best years may be behind him considering he should have signed with the UFC almost 6 years ago. I don't think we'll ever know what his true ceiling was. Also he's still a capable operator at the weight. a solid top top 10 guy. Some good fights for him if he decides to keep going. I'd like to see a fight with Maia next as a tune-up. That's a fight for the purists though.
