Best way to beat Baer is to outbox him and I don’t see any of these men doing so. The best Baer is the favorite in all cases.

Braddock wasn't especially crafty or quick though. Baer lost that fight because of his own faults--not because Braddock brought anything special.

Baer also lost to the likes of Les Kennedy, Johnny Risko, and Willie Davis.

Comiskey was a big puncher with decent chin (KO-ed only twice) and he got destroyed in one round.

Compared to Baer he was. The same right hands that Baer was landing so easily on Carnera weren’t landing on Braddock because he always was in the perfect position to lean out of range and then quickly beat Baer to the punch. He even neutralized Baer’s defense. Braddock would’ve took a decision off of Foreman as well.

Also, Risko, Willie Davies, and Kennedy were all very crafty fighters as well.

I never had the luxury of seeing Risko fight, but my grandfather’s barber Mr. Thesmond, who went to plenty of fights throughout the 1920’s to the mid 1940’s and seen Risko fight plenty of times compared him to James Tillis in that he had all the tools such as experience, ring craft, chin, and a good punch, but you never knew if he was going to show up to fight or just go through the motions.

Willie Davies despite his record had a very good jab and was good at giving bigger less mobile opponents a hard time such as Seal Harris and Dynamite Jackson, who were very tough customers.

Kennedy was a very good fighter and was very crafty, but much like a Jerry Quarry he didn’t have enough rest in between fighting good competition and his durability eventually gave out.

I disagree with the opinion that Braddock did something special to beat Baer. Maxie from Schmeling, Carnera or Levinsky fight would beat Braddock. For some reasons he fought without any agression and he paid the price. Even in Nova fights he looks much better and tougher to beat even though he was clearly past his best.

Baer also won the title from one of the five worst title holders in history .. I think any of the men mentioned beats Carnera ..

When Baer Dropped Carnera, Carnera severely rolled his ankle. People don’t talk about this enough, in Carnera’s condition their is no way that bout should of lasted 10 more rounds. That’s how sloppy Baer was.
I’d give Baer a good Chance to beat Williams and Godfrey. He loses to Lyle and Rudduck.
These are interesting choices for him as not of these guys had footwork which was kryptonite to Baer. Basically pure slugfests.

Come on, Baer could finish him in any moment, he just played with Carnera.

Baer has become overrated imo among historical fans. He was obviously a devastating puncher, especially for his time, but beyond that he wasn't anything too special.

Yes but they didn't beat him, Baer did.

I could find you more than five lineal champions who were worse than Carnera.

Yeah, Carnera wasn't great but he was far from the terrible bum people talk about today.

I think that he is rated just as he always has been to be honest!

Some people are awed by his flashes of brilliance, others denounce him for his flashes of mediocrity, and most occupy the confused space betwixt!
