Has Tyson Fury ever knocked out a real, legitimate Heavyweight?

Their second fight which was for the British and European titles and also a final elimination fight to face Wlad for the world title. Fury totally dominated and battered Chisora who was pulled from the fight after the 10th by his corner.

Also you’re right about Haye knocking Chisora spark out. I don’t think Haye or Fury are given enough credit for beating Chisora like they did especially when you think that a far older Chisora in recent years has KOed Takem and given Whyte hell in 2 life and death wars.

 

To the op's question. Does it matter? He can outbox any heavyweight on the planet without the need to knock them out. Check his record out. Never beaten. Outboxed every opponent and as the sport is called 'boxing' i would say that is very prevelant. People lose sight with what the sport is all about and get far too obsessed with who has KO'd who. Its about ring craft, the ability to box and move, dodging punches, tactics and timing. If there is a KO great but it isn't the be all and end all.

 

Cunningham at 6'3 210 pounds is a Heavyweight.

I would also dispute the "blown up" description as Cunningham like most modern cruisers are 210 to 220 in the ring so its doubtful he put on any additional weight, he just didnt cut water weight to hit 199. Now Holyfield was a genuine blown up cruiser who added roughly 30 pounds of muscle to his 6'1" frame in his late 20s and early 30s.

 

He also ran from the rematch with wlad and wilder.

 

If fury chisora 2 continued it would have been a ko, maybe chisora taking a knee or something.

Hammer if he wanted to continue would have got iced instead of quitting

As Eubank said, it’s more satisfying having a corner or your opponent give up over a KO.

It means they’ve realised you’re so much above them they don’t even have a punchers chance

 

To make ‘WAR’ chisora quit in his corner with tears in his eyes is more impressive than whyte icing him imho

 

He once almost knocked himself out.

Well, true, but USSS still couldn't roll the punch as Fury's other paw was on the other side of his head!

I am a Fury fan, but there's no denying that he isn't a one punch K.O artist by any stretch.

 

The issue with Fury's punching is pretty simple. There are two Furys:
1. Pure Boxer Fury
2. War Fury

When Fury boxes carefully he doesn't load up as much and so doesn't get the big finishes. He often explains this, saying you leave yourself open to big counters trying to land bombs. Joshua just proved this. When Joshua boxes more carefully he also looks a lot less powerful, e.g. Parker.
When Fury goes into pure fight mode he tends to hurt opponents, but he tends to only do this in certain situations.

Sometimes you'll see both Furys in the same fight. Here are some examples.

1. Abel. Fury started off boxing. Abel headbutted him and caused some damage. Fury saw red and got into a wild fight, dropping and stopping Abel. He took some big shots in the exchanges though.
2. Cunningham. Fury started off boxing and showboating too much, got caught. Then he went into pressure brawl mode and ended up stopping Cunningham. Cunningham wasn't washed up, that was an eliminator I believe. He was maybe 210, but completely cut at that weight, meaning probably more muscle than your Arreola, Parker, certainly Ruiz.
3. Klitschko. Yes, you can even see it in this fight. Fury boxed ultra carefully for the majority of the fight. But in the final few rounds he took a lot of risks and the final round he threw caution to the wind, though they were both too exhausted to really do much.
4. German guy. Fury started off boxing. Says he got hit with a good left by Schwartz and decided to take him out. He became very aggressive and took him out.

A note on the Cunningham 'illegal' KO. Fury hurt Cunningham with two big uppercuts right before the stoppage, one to head, one to body. Cunningham was ready to go, if it wasn't the cocked right hand it probably would have been something else.

 

20 of Fury's 28 wins have come via KO or TKO. So he definitely has power. Especially considering the way he fights. The man is ***** slapping grown men into submission.
