The top guys at the weight didn’t want to fight him him the time and it was Canelo who chose when the fight happened. GGG wanted it earlier. Obviously you can’t blame Canelo as he’s smart and just waiting for the best time to fight GGG. Remember Pirog was meant to fight GGG back in the day but had to retire due to injury. That would have been a very good name on his resume.
but they did, lemieux fought him literally as his first defence. jacobs the next number one contender after 3G, then foght him the next year. Canelo fought him the year after. thats one top ranker/title holder each year once golovkin became relevant. its the opposite of what you claim. As soon as 3G became relevant he got 3 good opponents almost in immediacy.
He didn’t get credit for Lemieux because he’s not quite at the elite level. GGG made his American debut in 2011 and got Jacobs in 2017.
GGG is the better boxer, he proved it by beating Canelo twice in 2 different ways. While also being much older.
I'd have to say that their 1st fight is the best representative of their respective boxing skills. As G was already 35, and at the tail end of his prime. I had G winning 116-112 and thought he won fairly clean. Personally, I think prime G is a little better than prime Canelo. Both guys are elite, all-time fighters and put on 2 great fights.
