His skills were already declining by Holyfield 3. Had Holyfield not gassed Bowe would have been stopped.

Bowe always has a shoddy defense. And poor ring iQ. Pierre Coetzer gave him a heck of a fight, Holyfield, golota, Bowe was destined to decline fast. I too shudder to think what Wlad would of done to him with his jab.

I agree with this. But I think the Holyfield Bowe would have beaten both Klitschkos. In fact, the only fighters I see giving Bowe a hard time during that time in his career would be guys like Louis, Holmes, Ali...I want to say 70s Foreman but that's in doubt for me (I don't know if GF could have dealt with the jab). The pre-Steward Lewis would have fallen in six...not sure on the Steward version though.

And back then there wer tons of stories around about how hard the guy was to train. They were very selective in their matchmaking and for good reason. When you think about it, Audley Harrison probably had a better pro toolset than Gonzalez. 3 round amatuer fights are a completely different ballgame than long distance pro bouts are. The conditioning of Gonzalez was never good and he dropped those hands early in his fights.

Remember that disaster against ancient Tim Witherspoon? Thos Gonzalez hands had dropped early and Tim was throwing his looping right hand from his rear end. And it landed. Clean even. Not too many guys are going to make it to the top without good top notch trainers. And the fighter also has to have the mentality to listen to the trainers as well. That part of things is far mor important than 3 round decision wins as an amatuer over fighter A or fighter B.

Do you think Wlad's jab and grab tactics would work on Bowe? Bowe was known for unleashing shots (often illegally) when breaking up from the clinch.

Jab and grab works on small fighters only.

Bowe was too big and had a much better, consistent jab.

Wlad did have a great jab but he had absolutely no inside game at all. When Bowe tries to charge in Wlad will have no answer.

Didn’t Bowes people take him on a world tour to promote him in an attempt to make him a crossover star? That can hurt you if you aren’t disciplined in all aspects (What you eat daily, training etc). Also Holyfield landed some hard shots all damn night. I think Bowe left the ring with the belt, but less of himself after Holyfield and Golata just nut punched the rest out of him.

This ranks right up there with Duane Bobick's stoppage of Larry Holmes in the amateurs....meaning "so what"....
