Correct. At a time when not many others were interested in him. So there was no DLH type promotion wanting to back the Bowe pro chances.

Another interesting thing is that Newman could have very very easily watched his money and his investment and never ever made a fiscal decision to go with Eddie Futch. Lots of other choices around for trainers and tons cheaper. But Newman did not do that.

Which I'm sure he did out of his sense of benevolence and feelings of good will.

It is pretty disgusting but Bowe doesn't exactly have a great record in his domestic matters anyway, let's be honest.

Eddie Futch is to many the greatest trainer ever. http://boxrec.com/media/index.php/Eddie_Futch https://bleacherreport.com/articles...est-trainers-in-boxing-history-my-take#slide1
No trainer alive is anywhere near close to Futch. Bowe would have totally gone off the rails without the guidance of Futch. It was a struggle to keep him disciplined, active and in shape even before the 1992 Holyfield fight.
People say Bowe didn't have a tight defence. Well he was a slugger.

That's the thing. Look at Tyson, in his prime he really wasn't that easy to hit (especially compared to Bowe). If Bowe had just tried harder on that end of his style he might have remained champ...perhaps until Lewis got with Steward.

His inability to deal with punchers knocks him down a couple pegs for me.

I agree. No manager in history ever jumped on the ring aprom and back flipped a fighter like ROCK did. :bump

Gr8 remembrance joining & quitting bootcamp, kidnapped his own wife!! This saddens me and I'm
, split on who was at fault Bowe or Newman? Just like Hopkins And Bouie Fisher. Not sure either fighter saw logically or emotionally about men who backed them from young adulthood to full adult hood.

How does Lewis not being able to handle two decent punchers affect his standing in your eyes?
