Great way for Burns to sign off his career, a fight against one of the best of his era in his hometown. I give him a decent chance, Linares isn't what he was and has been stopped on a number of occasions, nobody has stopped Burns, not even a broken jaw could stop him, not even Terence Crawford. I don't know what people are complaining about really, it's an intriguing fight and reward for the dedication to the sport that Burns has put in, he deserves one last big fight and if this is it then I'm pleased for him.
He has had plenty of one last big fights for my liking and it is awful watching a decent fighter perform at an awful level as he cannot engage due to his jaw.
Agreed fella. Long time viewer first time poster here gents. Reckon this is a good fight at this point of both fighters careers. As a jock and a Burns fan, hoping Ricky has one big performance left but got to fancy Linares for this one. I’m actually in Turkey (Fethiye) when this would happen. Could anyone recommend any boozers to watch it?
This is what you call a Victorian age freak show mismatch. An able bodied highly efficient skilled fighter beating down on a defenseless unskilled old man. The only good thing is if it takes place in scotland and all of Ricky's fanboys manage to sway the betting odds in his favor because they believe Linares is a bum, then it's easy winnings for those who enjoy placing a bet.
Really like Burns but I don’t see why we should keep watching him in mismatches. Why not slide down a level of you want to keep doing it. Obviously the money isn’t anywhere near as good there but as fans I think it’s turning us off him at the moment and that’s a real shame. As for Linares on the slide, I don’t think you can decide that on one shock ko. It was only a couple of fights ago he was beating Campbell and giving Lomachenko a fight.
I really don't get all the hate towards Burns -- very nice guy who has been involved in some cracking fights. Great ambassador for Scottish and UK boxing throughout his career and I am buzzing to hear of him getting this fight as he always seems to be in the gym and working hard. Easy to sit behind a keyboard and slate people but I don't get slating Burns...
Watch his title defence against Indongo for some clues. The fight week he said 'cannot wait to get in there on Saturday', 'going to be very exciting for the fans' and 'waited all my life for these big fights' then skips away from the action for 12 rounds losing every minute of every round. The tamest world title defence loss ever seen in a boxing ring. The Jock fans took a good poking that night and I would be raging as well if I bought a ticket to watch that garbage. Should have retired after the Beltran fight as he would have had a good legacy - now all people remember is fans being conned and a fighter operating at a very poor level compared to the man before the Beltran fight.
It’s not hate or slating him. He’s been out the ring how long? And even before that absence he should’ve hung them up. He’s had a great career but it’s time to let it go.
He didn't even pay Frank as Burns declared himself bankrupt. The court case actually put Frank in a terrible financial situation as Burns couldn't pay up and Frank still had to pay his lawyer fees which went into the hundreds of thousands. I think Frank now has an on-going situation with the law firm trying to recoup their fees. Karma is a *****.
Can just about swallow conning fans a little if Warden ruined him financially, but if what you post is correct, his legacy has been completely eroded and he will be remembered as just another grub.
