Do Jerry Quarry and Ron Lyle become modern day champions

I'd say no ,but they would have success in the 30's and 50's.

 

Not likely, maybe one of the belts like Wilder does, but definitely not the champion. I don't see any of them becoming clearly the best fighters in the world in any era post Sullivan to be honest.

 

Qarry would soundly defeat the current amatuers.

I think both beat Corbett, Hart,Burns ,Willard,Carnera, Leon Spinks, Ingo, maybe Sharkey.

 

I don't think they would beat Corbett, Willard, Sharkey or Ingo but that wasn't my point. They would never be the best fighters in the world, in any era. That was what I wanted to say.

During Corbett career two fighters were the best - Fitzsimmons and Jeffries.
During Hart career two fighters were the best - Jeffries and Johnson.
During Burns - Johnson.
During Carnera and Sharkey - Tunney, Schmeling and Louis
During Ingo - Liston.
During Spinks - Holmes.

Only Willard could be argued as the best but even then I'd take Langford, Wills and later Dempsey over him.

If Wilder, Joshua and Ruiz can do it, so would Quarry and Lyle. This era pales badly compared to the 70's.

There's more 200 pound and up guys that can fight professionally today than there were in the 70's.

Globalization and fighter size growth led to enough of an increase in the supply of fighting big men to fill two divisions, hence the creation of Cruiserweight. That wasn't the case in what was essentially a domestic scene only in the 70's.
