When I hear of the WBF belt I think WTF is that. Then I realise that there are already 4 major belts and with some of those belts about 5 champions per weight class and think to myself this sucks.
I hereby proclaim that the WBF is forever known as the WTF belt on these forums. We all know what WTF means
The IBF had some hard time until Larry Holmes & Michael Spinks The WBO had a much harder time until Joe Calzaghe & Naseem Hamed IBF was lucky to get Larry Holmes & Michael Spinks on boat early (for many reasons it worked) WBO (for long was known as the WBOgus), tried so hard their first man was Moorer they belted him early, but Moorer was not a WBO tileholder on the eve of his biggest win for WBA & IBF, after the Moorer horrible investment the WBO tried Arum & his hottest prospect DLH, things looked fine for 2 years DLH was sparking contenders & defending his WBO 135 (and 130)...but Arum dumped the WBOgus for the WBC right before DLH big win vs Chavez Sr in 1996, so the WBO missed out on defeating the WBC. The WBO got tired from the USA pimps & things worked out better for them in the UK Calzaghe & Hamed beat other titleholders while they were WBO champions & from their on the WBO became a respected belt When WBF champions beat WBC/WBA/WBO/IBF champions, the belt will get respect, especially if the sanctioning fees are better...For now its nothing worth paying any sanctioning fees
Without checking - because I can't be bothered searching - I am 99% certain that Joe Bugner held one of these minor "World Belts" when he was aged about 50 or so. Says it all.
