Briggs sucked but for some reason he had a lot of money behind him and celebs too - I attended a book signing he was at and Madonna was supposed to arrive - this was shortly before he got ko’d on night of young heavyweights. Most overrated American heavyweight until Wilder. Foreman clearly won that fight but I had no sympathy for Foreman because Schulz defeated him imo and Foreman didn’t grant rematch or even acknowledge he may have lost or it was close.
Pretty much this and the fact after winning the title Foreman seemed to have zero interest fighting the best I don't think many cared a great deal that he was on the wrong end of a bad decision. Either way it was a clear win for Foreman.
Oh yeah, Schultz whupped him, no doubt about it. I'd prefer that the right decision had been applied in both fights though.
Something went wrong with George’s right shoulder around this point of his second career. He could only kind of flail and push that punch out there. Made a big difference in his game. If only there was someone qualified to do a video analysis ... (looking at you @Rumsfeld)
I don’t think there was any reporting on it ... it’s just obvious at some point around this time that he couldn’t really throw that hand with any authority like he was able to before. Injury, wear and tear, whatever ... never really got that part back. And it showed.
The judges did George a favor. They should have let Ali go maybe he would have exited a few years sooner than he did. Foreman wins maybe gets an offer to fight somebody all wrong for him.
I haven't scorer that one since I saw it but I think George built a decent lead in the early rounds. He put Stewart down 2 or 3 times in the early going. Foreman's face was tore up at the end but they don't score that. I don't like seeing Foreman like that so I have never went back.
