Why are people giving Yarde props for FINALLY taking a world title shot after being number 1 for well over a year and turning down other world title shots? Yarde is doing what most challengers do or at least should do and go and win a title in the champions backyard. Yarde hasn't got many other options, he won't fight Buatsi or any other decent domestic fighter. And in my opinion, he is taking on an old and beatable Kov, 36 years old, lost 3 of his last 6. It was either Kov of one of these.. IBF Beterbiev WBA Bivol WBC Gvozdyk They are hoping Kov is unmotivated, past caring and they can pinch the title and hold it hostage, just like Cleverly did until they are forced to fight a solid mandatory.. funnily enough that was Kov and we know how that ended.

I dont think you can moan too much to be fair...a world title fight after 18 fights certainly aint milking it too much. Sure the level of opposition may not have been that high but its the route they decided to go down. Time will tell if its the correct one, he could have milked it longer and waited for Kov to fade further IMO. He cannot choose his rankings thats outwith his control all he and his team can do is decide how they wanna get to a position to be world champ. I cannot call it, I have no idea what Yarde is like when its put on him or in with someone of the level of Kov. No idea what Kov has left, he is defo on the decline is it the start of his decline or is he a good bit into it we will also find out.
I agree, if he wins that belt is likley being held hostage for a long time, then finally will get given credit when forced into a unification fight. That's how I can see things unfolding, hope I'm proven wrong!

I don’t think Kovalev is shot. That win over Alvarez was absolutely class, it was a shut out. Alvarez didn’t get a sniff. Certainly no shame in being edged out by an ATG in Ward either. Credit to Yarde though, i’ll be cheering him on but I believe he’s getting utterly starched in this fight. Hope i’m wrong.
Yarde has fought absolutely nobody to prepare him for a fighter like kovalev, I might be wrong but I think its a terrible fight for Yarde. You can't just go from bashing Hungarian taxi drivers to beating top guys like that.
