Not much chance. Wilfredo had everything in his arsenal, much better power, defense, and ferocity. Both had great footwork and put together punches well. Canizales might have a better chin. But I see Gomez breaking down Canizales. Would be a beautiful fight to watch though.
We'll never know with Canizales whether he was ultimately capable of beating this level of fighter. The fact that he sometimes looked flat against the level of opposition he faced doesn't fill you with confidence, but then you watch him against Hardy in the rematch and he was otherworldly. He possibly had the tools to compete on even terms with Gomez imo, I genuinely think he was that talented and complete and with an iron chin. Gomez took quite a lot of punches against the likes of Yum despite his great skillset and fluidity, not the type of punches you'd want to be taking from Canizales on too regular a basis. The problem for Canizales is that I think he was often too polite and gentlemanly, worlds apart from the dirty, cheating horrible pig that Gomez was. That would probably end separating them even if it turned out that Canizales was capable of beating Gomez with all things equal.
I really want to pick Orlando but can't. Gomez had too much offense and was extremely proven under fire. As has been stated above, he is just another level.
Not a lot of people even know who Orlando was, but I am actually a fan of his, watched him many times, but an even bigger fan of Gomez, both excellent fighters at their respective weights, but No Canizales has no chance to win.
I remember Canizales coming to my home town to fight Billy Hardy, and believe me he was lucky to come away with the decision. He looked a different animal in the rematch starching the game Billy. Gomez I think was just a notch above Canizales but on Orlando’s best night I think this could be pretty close.
