Similar to @The Undefeated Lachbuster's a while ago with Holmes and Marciano My top 5 wins (in no order) for Wlad are Sam Peter Chris Byrd David Haye Alexander Povetkin Kubrat Pulev For Tyson I think it's Frank Bruno Razor Ruddock Andrew Golota Old Larry Holmes Trevor Berbick How do these fights go? Peter vs Bruno Byrd vs Ruddock Haye vs Golota Povetkin vs Old Holmes Berbick vs Pulev
I got Peter winning an entertaining fight coz Bruno would freeze up under that force, just like he did against Tyson (I know it's not the same) but I think we'd get a great little scrap here Peter KO6 Byrd vs Ruddock I got a Ruddock KO or a Byrd UD, Ruddock is slow as but that smash could cover some distance and might be able to slip in under Byrd's arm when he throws his jab, would look a little bit like the Ibeabuci fight Or Byrd dances around him and shoulders all of his smashes, but I think Byrd gets caught later on Razor Ruddock KO8 Haye vs Golota I know Golota is a NC for Tyson but he won and it was changed so I'm giving it him, Haye is underrated in here imo, I think he takes Golota out, but it's sloppy and he probably doesn't look good doing it. Haye showed no explosiveness against Wlad but he did with Chisora, I think he manages to stop Golota later on Haye TKO7 Holmes was not as good in this fight, his jab was still stellar, but his defence wasn't the best and his shots were missing (although that was more Tyson than Holmes). I think Povetkin dies some of the things that Tyson does good enough to win enough rounds against Larry to take a MD/close UD. It's a fight I'd not have faith in either guy. Berbick vs Pulev I think Pulev's jab causes Berbick issues, and manages to outbox him, but agian I don't have any faith either way Pulev UD12
I'd agree bar maybe Haye and Pulev. Golota prime even when Lewis bombed him out was a force, Hayes a fav of mine over the years and he does have the speed and power to stop Golota, but its a hard fight for him, Golota head right was good and could box well. Berbick I have UD'ing Pulev, never been impressed with him other than a excellent Jab
The fact that an even older Holmes was competitive with a complete upgrade of Povetkin in Holyfield, I will not be taking it to the bank
Both have weak competition so this should be interesting 1. I regard Bruno higher but Peter is all wrong for him. Peter late stoppage 2. Byrd UD 7 days a week and 2 times on Sunday 3. Haye via DQ 4. If Povetkin couldn't finish old Wlad, I don't like him over Old Holmes. Holmes UD 5. Berbick UD. Ugly, boring fight. 3-2 in Wlad's favor
3-2 to Wlad then, hmm. I know how much this will make you shake and stutter, but I think both have much better competition than Marciano.
w-what? visibly shaking jk but i disagree. i also regard their competition lower than Dempsey's and Holmes', both whom i regard lower than marciano's as well kinda sad that you think Wlad's is better than marciano's tbh. Who do you regard higher, Povetkin or Rex Layne?
I rank Holmes above everyone's here, well tied with Wlad. I don't but I think Byrd is, I think Byrd is a top 20 HW, I don't think Layne is (although if he's not it's very close and by 1/2 place margins). I mean they both lose to both anyway. And as a whole collection of wins (I give more points for wins over career HWs) Wlad is better imo. In my opinion Rocky has like 3 good wins, 2 of which get KOed by Peter and there's an argument 2 of them were past prime. Layne is a good win, but not as good as Byrd (in a HW ATG or H2H sense) or Peter (H2H). I think Charles getting flattened by Jersey (who I'll get onto) took the prime from him, and in the Satterfield fight he clearly isn't as good and I haven't seen the whole Marciano fight but he didn't seem as good in that either. The fact he went 15 is testimonial of how great Ezz is, and gave us insight into how damaging a fight with Marciano is to your career. Jersey Joe represents the best win in either's résumé, both H2H and ATG wise, don't have a bad word to say about the win as I agree with you that Walcott was still in (while at the end) his prime. And I'm not gonna lie, the only aspect I have Marciano ahead of Wlad in is Endurance (Stamina, Chin, Workrate ect.)
Too far gone to be classed as a great win imo, although it still took a level of skill to beat him, he clearly wasn't at his best and I think age had took to much from him, I give Patterson almost none for it. I would comment on Cockell and LaStarza but I don't know enough about them
LaStarza gets a tad overhated here due to his lack of, lets say, aggressive match making, but he had extremely good boxing fundamentals and a solid chin. Almost a discount Tunney Cockell was meh but Marciano was both off and losing his desire for boxing. Personally i regard it as Marciano's weakest title defense I regard Moore as one of the greatest heavyweight contenders ever
