Would a Yarde win represent the best british victory on a foreign soil?

Tyson Fury victory against Klitschko is definitely up there but this feels like a more improbable task considering that Yarde's previous experiences haven't prepared him for this level of opposition.

It would be one of the big ones. I remember Lloyd Honeyghan taking the 3 belts from Don Curry in 86. That was regarded as a big upset at the time.

No. Klitshko dominated a division for a decade and was still on top. Kovalev although still a good boxer is past his best.

not really…...you cant compare it with the honeygan win. Curry was p4p number one at the time. kovalev is very good, but he got ko´d just one fight ago. and eleider Alvarez isnt a big Puncher. so at least on paper, yarde has a shot. honeygan didnt have that.

Eleider Alvarez knocked Kovalev out just 12 months ago, so it would hardly be an earth-shattering achievement if Yarde did it.
But, yeah, it's a huge step up for Yarde.

Not THE best but it would be very well regarded indeed and propel both Yarde and Queensberry bigtime.

It would be a massive win imo but one that people will pull apart.

Yarde wins and Kovalev is past it

Yarde loses and he is a bum and shouldn't have been in the same ring as Kovalev.

Kovalev is past his best, that not really disputed, is it ? ...... but he's still a legit world title holder and Yarde will be a legit world title holder if he wins.
To become a world title holder by beating a champ in his backyard is a credible achievement. I don't think anyone will deny that.
    Good luck to Yarde.

For me it be right up there even though Kovalev is old and only got KO'D a two fights ago.

You have to remember it was only a few fights ago, that Frank Warren was marketing Yarde vs Sek as Yarde's "first southpaw test" in his 16th fight.

That should give you an idea of how far away Yarde has been from world Level and how much of an upset it would be.

There’s been a few - Froch made a name for himself fighting abroad in the Super 6 with some impressive wins.
Benns win against Dewitt up there considering where he was after Watson defeat.
But I’ll always remember Bruno’s ‘he’s hurt Tyson! ... Get in there Frank!’ moment - with amazing commentary from Harry Carpenter in Las Vegas. Iron Mike was the scariest man on the planet at the time & looked invincible. For Bruno to be the first man to rock him was edge of your seat stuff at the time. Get in there Frank!!

No but I wouldn't rule it out either - Kovalev has terrible punch resistance

I think Laing beating Duran would also be a bigger win despite no title being on the line in Detroit.

Curry was a top fighter at the time but honeygan was a well schooled fighter himself. He was a successful amateur and hed won British and European and defended them a few times before facing curry.
It was a big task for Lloyd and it was a shock to the world when he won but everything is relative and whilst kov ain't no Donald curry, yarde ain't no Lloyd honeygan either.
