6 rounds @ heavyweight at La Hacienda Event Center in Midland, Texas on Saturday night. This match was scheduled to happen earlier this year, in March, but was scrapped last minute. The Atomic Bull has since turned 54 years old, and picked up a stoppage in May over 37 year old Mexican southpaw Hugo Lomeli to extend the comeback he began in 2018 (having previously fought in 18 of 20 years from 1985-2014, missing only 2002 & 2008...) Baca is "only" 32, a late bloomer who made his pro debut in his late twenties in March of 2014 (sandwiched between McCall's initial February victory over Marcin Rekowski and subsequent April rematch loss to him, presaging his retirement/layoff). His best result is probably holding unbeaten Texan heavyweight Justin "Jawbreaker" Jones (now 22-0-2) to a draw in an 8-rounder. Here is Baca's rematch with Kenny Lemos, in which a ring breakage led to a NC. So yeah, no circus atmosphere surrounding this guy whatsoever: This content is protected
McCall is, unless something changed drastically in the last few days, in very good condition. He has been sparring with Justin Jones. I think he will win on points; I don't know anything about the other guy but I don't believe that McCall will be matched in a way that would expose him to risk.
McCall’s most recent fight against Hugo Lomeli (skip to around 45 minutes): This content is protected
Man.. The quality of the pair of matches posted in here... I'd feel pretty confidently running the gauntlet in a same day eight man tourney if my draws were Baca, Lemos, McCall, and Lomeli!
That is the silliest thing I ever read. Luis Ortiz used to fight back before the Marquess of Queensberry rules and Ortiz was way past 30 then.
