There was four dollars to the pound up to about 1960. The British championship brought in a lot of money. I think Jack Doyal Jack Peterson drew 100,000 to white city. Len Harvey, Tommy Farr, Woodcock And Mills netted a lot of money in their careers. More money than some world champions ever did. Post war Boxing was huge in the U.K.

Bruce Woodcock made a lot of money. There was four dollars to the pound then. His purses by today’s money would have been huge. I bet woodcock made more money than most pre war light heavyweight champions. The gate for his fight with Savold was about 85,000 fans. Twenty Guineas for ringside.

I think as the opponent, Joe Baksi made about £20,000 from the two fights he had in London fighting against the british heavyweight champ and british lightheavyweight champion Within six months. He won both fights then went back to America. The british champions were huge attractions.

I very much doubt it.Woodcock ended up in straightened circumstances.
And you are only referring to the UK,pretty much small potatoes as far as the world scene goes.
PS THE PETERSON V DOYLE FIGHT DREW 70,000 STILL VERY GOOD BUT 30,000 SHORT.

That's Greb alright. It's just a section of the training newsreel from before the Walker fight that's been colorised. Still cool though.

I'm sorry, I know hes a legend and all with the GOAT résumé, but has to be better than that, surely. He looks pretty shocking, have you seen any articles saying he went easy in sparring? Or if it was for fitness?

The tired old Ezzard Charles was always really a natural heavyweight agenda again.

He sparring Philadelphia Jack O'Brien, who would have been about 47. I think it was just for the cameras.

Spinks, Jones, Tunney and Foster would have the best chance but I'd still favour Charles over all of them.

If you put a gun to my head, I would say Harry Greb, because at least he wouldn't be trying to out Ezzard Ezzard!

No Charles was not always a natural heavyweight! what are you smoking?

But until he grew over 180lb, Charles was always the best lightheavyweight in the heavyweight division.

Charles was too good for lightheavyweight.
