There's been many slick southpaws over the years. What are some fighters that you can think of that had a style similar to or inspired by Pernell Whitaker? Always thought that Anselmo Moreno was very similar. He had moves that were shades of Sweet Pea.

Zab Judah copied his style and was trained by him.
Guillermo Rigondeaux watched a lot of his tapes upon turning pro.
    Gervonta Davis has studied him.

Tevin Farmer also has some Sweet Pea style, with a little bit of James Toney's shoulder roll.

In no way, shape, or form could the Proffesor be mistaken for having even a semblance of Pernell Whitaker's style.
Nelson very often was willing to walk through fighters, just an absolute beast.

Crawford. Not because of his boxing, but because of the look on his face. They both have the same eyes of son of the bitches. You can clearly see in their eyes that they are not good people, not the people I would like to have as friends. Just garbage people.

Whitaker is one of my favourite fighters ever, and crawford is my favourite fighter right now, I'm a massive fan of them both. I dont say it because I'm a hater, it's just that they are not good people, it is easy to see, you can be a ******* and a wonderful fighter too, actually usually one thing leads to the other..

When I think of Sweet Pea I think of unusually good reaction speed, a natural athleticism in his body movements. His defense seemed to be based around his physical ability to move out of the way of shots he saw coming more than actual technique. So, in that respect, he reminds me of Locche. Roy Jones and Ali are the offensive version of this. Pep could do the same things as Whitaker defensively, but it looked like he had smarter technique and wasn't so reliant on godlike reflexes. Mayweather was as defensively sound and even faster, but his style was incredibly technical, and more risk averse. Mayweather wouldn't close to the same range as Whitaker would because it's easier to get hit at short and medium range than if you stay on the outside and snipe. Whitaker, like Toney, would stay in the pocket and not get hit, moving their body more than their feet.

Obviously both ATG's....but exactly--in different styles. Not a comparison that even occurred to me either.

James Toney comes to mind having said that Whitaker would be the Bench Mark for possibly the Greatest Defensive Fighter I have ever seen...Loved watching Him.!!!!

I think his style is more Mayweather than Toney.

I agree with ur statement on his defense was more so based around his physical ability to move out the way of shots. In other words speed and reflex. Just like Jones Jr. Jones Jr. had that same ability, but made his opponents pay more when they missed.
