Why Holmes would NOT be better equipped against Frazier than Ali was

Who is better equipped to fight Frazier?

  1. Ali

  2. Holmes

  3. Their weaknesses and strength more or less cancel each other out so it's a draw.

Ali's jab was quicker, definitely more versatile (inarguable imo) used more often and he could actually change it's direction after throwing it. Holmes has NEVER showed thism

He did. Not sure what benefits he truly got but for whatever reason he sure could take it.

Fair enough. What in particular do you disagree with?

Yes. The damage he inflicted upon himself by far negated whatever good it did (if any).

Holmes jab was a fast hard accurate painful punishing shot. Speed is equal. Holmes was harder and more accurate. Holmes used his jab extremely well as well as anybody on defense. Holmes controlled entire fights on the basis of his jab. Holmes had the more versatile jab not Ali. 2 great jabs but Holmes was in a league of his own with that weapon.

Ali's jab imo was faster and more accurate. Even the post exile version. The jab he showed in the 1st Quarry fight was superior to any jab of Holmes imo

That and lots of guys came over that Holmes jab with right hands. It was almost impossible to counter the Ali jab and catch him with clean right hands.

Thing is that the punch to get to Holmes was not the left hook it was a right hand. Frazier had no right hand. The punch to hit prime Ali was the left hook not the right hand. Remember that Joe never knocked any pro opponent DOWN with his right hand. In addition Holmes showed an ability to neutralize a left hook attack. I could see Holmes boxing at distance and then tying up Frazier in close coasting to a U decision win over 15 rounds. I believe Larry’s toughness would get him through tough moments during the bout. Frazier was no Shavers in terms of KO power.

Ali never stated he lost all three of his bouts vs Norton. Ali indeed WON fights 2 and 3. Reality trumps speculation.

Shavers said flat out in an an interview that Holmes was both more powerful and had a better jab than Ali. The OP did not do his homework.

I don't know if any one could have beaten FOTC Frazier, but Holmes Foreman Louis and probably Lewis do come most readily to mind. I have no idea whether Larry would ha stood up better than Ali, I just know it would have been an awesome fight to see.

Shavers did not fight prime Ali so it’s not an apples to apples comparison. Ali’s jab was quicker and with his lateral movement he would hit opponents at angles. I would say Holmes jab was only superior in terms of power.

Just for kicks, I personally think the Holyfield beating Bowe would have beaten Joe pre and post FOTC. I even think that Bowe would have given my favorite fighter a great fight, mostly because Larry never liked bigger guys with good jabs.
