Is it possible that a restore-able version of a Greb fight is languishing in an attic somewhere?

    The answer is just about.

Many key scenes were lost from the 1925 version of The Lost World, with only a heavily abridged version having been retained.

In 1992 a nearly complete version was found in the Film Archive of the Czech Republic.

This allowed a restored and largely complete version to be released in 1997.

    We can always hope!

Yeah, I've also heard that and that made me think that they filmed it. One round KO just isn't as significant for filmography as Corbett vs Fitz and that's why it wasn't released officially. At least that's my theory and if it's true, then we'll probably never see this fight.

No this isnt true. They tried to film it but in that era you needed a lot of light for a successful film. It was cloudy that day and the film came out underexposed so it was unusable. Thats why it was never released. Not because Bob KOd him before the cameras started rolling.

So is it possible (though not likely) that the film still exist?

Lost films are constantly being found. One example is the movie “The Grim Game” starring Harry Houdini. One person had this film in his private collection for many decades and it resurfaced, was restored and is now being shown here and there around the country. I would bet that a Greb fight or at least a clip from a Greb fight will resurface at some point in time.

Correct, possible but the odds are against it. But there is hope.

Just a question. Have any of the films found in museums been boxing or any other sports films, or have they been fictional films which were preserved because of "artistic" value? Just something I would like to know as it probably impacts the likelihood of a valuable film such as one of Harry Greb in action being discovered.

Since the guys collecting these types of films love the pioneers, there's your answer why Greb films aren't available.

Oh god, here we go again, some dip**** claiming a vast conspiracy to hide all films of Greb because he looks bad. Greb could look like a complete novice and it wouldnt change the fact the he thrashed more HOFers and champions in more fights than any other fighter and often did so in one sided fashion. To say nothing of the contenders he routinely beat. The number of his opponents we have on film who look good is as long as my arm and he still beat them, usually in their hometown or on neutral territory and without question. So the idea that him looking bad would affect peoples perception of the era is ignorant. Hell, plenty of people in his era thought he didnt look like he knew the first thing about boxing, that didnt stop them from judging him the winner in the fights they were witnessing.

Im not sure I understand the question. Most films arent discovered in museums, they may wind up in them later on but even that, I would say, is not typical.

If he looked like a complete novice, yeah, it would change things ... for all of them.
