Can much better fighter overcome such a huge physical disadvantage? Possibly the shortest power puncher against one of the tallest power punchers at HW divison. Sam overcame similar weight disadvantages than that, but I don't know whether he fough as tall fighter as Wilder in his prime. He fought Bill Tate when Sam was past his prime (still managed to beat him) but Tate wasn't Wilder class. Fulton is the closest one, but he fought Sam past Sam's prime both times. From what I've heard, Fulton was also different type of fighter than Wilder. How do you see it prime for prime? Let's say 3 fights series, as Langford fought the same opponents many times.
Fulton's jabs damaged the optic nerve in one of Sam's eyes which eventually made him blind in one eye,he wasn't the same fighter after their first fight.
Yeah, that's why I wouldn't use these fights much against him. Did he ever fight someone almost as tall as Wilder befofe first Fulton fight?
I suspect that Langford would eventually lure Wilder into walking into a bomb, and then finish him off.
I suspect that you are on drugs. Wilder wasnt dropped by stiverne, fury, arreola, or ortiz but a natural middleweight will make him hit the canvas? Skill is irrelevant when tbe size difference is so drastic and the bigger man has a good chin and amazing power. A Chihuahua with a black belt would still get slaughtered by a pit bull with a white belt.
I would normally agree, but Langford beat guys like Godfrey, Wills, Tate, McVea and all of them (besides Sam) when he was past his prime. This "natural middleweight" flattened modern-sized heavyweights and Godfrey, McVea and Wills were all heavy hitters with more than decent chin. Not saying that I'd expect Langford to beat Wilder, but it's not completely unreasonable. Langford did beat better fighters than Stiverne and Arreola.
Langford was a one off freak in the history of boxing. I have to pinch myself sometimes, when looking at the implications of what he was! I would rank him among the best finishers that the heavyweight division produced, even to this day!
The question isn't about whether he could KO Wilder (he definitelt could) but how would he cope with Wilder's huge reach and powerful right.
The idea of Langford knocking out Ortiz is even funnier than the thought of Langford knocking out Wilder.
