Two fighters within just a few days of each other die as result of there injuries .. first Dadashev & now: https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/sport/amp/boxing/49119157 Tragic news, RIP
RIP, champ. This is horrible and an even worse case of negligence than how Dadashev was handled. Frankly I'm getting a bit numb at this point...it's probably time I step back from the sport for a bit
Another member of our boxing family dies tragically. That makes 2 in a week. R.I.P. Hugo My sincere condolences to the family & friends. I wish I knew what the answer was
Damn, I saw the video of this fight and his father was holding him up while the judge read the cards , you can see he was clearly hurt and out of it. This kid was fighting a lot with no rest ,just a month before, he fought in Germany. Rest in peace Santillan.
Apparently that loss in Germany was bad enough that the commission suspended him from fighting there until July 30...he shouldn't have even been in the ring. His team had him fight in Argentina instead. Odds are they had him sparring in the lead up....absolutely ridiculous
there is absolutely no way that a ringside doctor or ref, or trainer can tell if a boxer has internal brain bleed during the fight.... it usually happens a few hours after the fight... we've seen fighters take brutal punishment for 12 whole rounds, though not the same after the fight, they come home safe to their wife and kids like Bellew.... stop trying to blame the officials and trainers.... nobody wants these deaths.
This. Pretty sad how low some people will go to make a buck. I’ve seen my fair share of promoters in California taking fighters that can’t pass physicals down to Mexico, so they can keep making money off the fighter.
sad news. its a sport where lives are being gambled with, but everyone connected to it knows that going in. best that can be done is to be strict about enforcing the already existing rules. the lack of accountability in every facet of boxing is really alarming. its starting to feel like im part of the crime for being a fan. boxing just cant police itself.
While I think we agree something needs to be done in regards to weight bullies and fighters cutting dangerous amounts of weight just before a fight, not sure why you seem to easily dismiss any blame to those in charge, in this thread and the Dadashev discussions. Obviously nobody wants these tragedies but we need to reduce the risks and commissions working together instead of what happens to often with different commissions and organisations ignoring and going against rulings and medical suspensions. I don't blame the officials or anybody in the Dadashev team for his death, unless they new about and ignored any health problems he had going into the fight or issues from cutting to much weight but in the Santillan death there most definitely can be some blame on the officials and his own team for not looking after fighters health etc. and allowing him to fight despite having a medical suspension until the end of this month.
