So you think these guys would be considered Bums of the Month? Norton of the Holmes fight Mike Weaver Tony Tucker Tony Tubbs Tim Witherspoon Michael Moorer Gerry Cooney Michael Dokes Buster Douglas Michael Spinks You think they're comparable to the likes of: Jack Roper Tony Musto Gus Dorazio Johnny Paycheck Johnny Davis Al Mccoy Jim Braddock Tony Galento Harry Thomas Abe Simon
You could also add Red Burman and even guys like Billy Conn. Conn was a solid guy but weighed between 160 and 170 most of his career. But anyway according to these old geeezers each of the guys Joe Louis faced even though most of them would be considered middleweights to cruiser weights by today's standards were better than the other guys you named. You know why? Because if you boxed back in the 20's, 30's 40's and early 50's no modern fighter could beat you.
Let me explain to you how the bum of the month club worked. If you lost to Louis in a title challenge, you were a bum of the month. That was the break I'm afraid. It didn't matter if you would could been the champion in another era, whether your record had merit in it's own right, or even whether you were part of the group of fighters originally given the "bum of the month" label! That is the eclipsing effect that a very long reigning champion has on the competition!
The thing I love the most is comparing human beings to cars and technology. Just because cars are more advanced nowadays, people also have to be more advanced right?
As mad as it sounds ,I can see Weaver really hurting , maybe dropping Louis till Joe turns it aroun .He gave Holmes all he could handle , he'd do the same to Louis imo . Douglas and Tucker are another two that could have him struggle .
You could always put us on ignore ? Sure I won't sleep tonight then .. but that's only cos it's so bloody hot ..
Not at all, from biological perspective we are identical to our ancestors. Yeah, we are a bit taller now but it's due to better nurtition and richier societies. Evolution doesn't work that way, pick a child from 1870s and transport it to 2010s and he wouldn't be any different.
Weaver was one of the fighters I could see troubling Joe, for the reason you stated. Of course, Louis might exploit Weaver's slow start?
This video proves that human being is basically the same. Differences are in equipment, nurtition and talent pool. On average, people's athletic potential hasn't grown since 1900.
It's possible , Weaver could be caught early and smashed. Then again , Joe too could be guilty of that .If he's caught the same way as Braddock and Two ton Tony did did him ,then Louis may be in trouble .
