I think he is a shitty human being and I believe he has demonstrated that enough times for it to be accepted as true.I couldn't care less about his popularity.
I remember doing prison time for busting some idiot's head in on the city bus. While there, I met some kids that were talking about Tyson, each with this sycophantic gleam in their eyes. I lumbered over and saw they were watching a rerun of the second Holyfield fight. I asked them what was so great about Tyson biting Holy's ear and one red head kid said "it just proves what an animal Tyson is, Holyfield was bumming". They got mad when I started laughing. "Dude, Holyfield already knocked the crud out of Mike once and was on his way to doing it again." I got even more mirthful and asked them "do you admire Mike?" to which they all nodded yes. "Then you all admire a ******". Their faces fell, because in this prison you either have to be Lou Ferrigno with a knife or be blowing the right lifer to exist un-sullied as a ******. Rapists are considered tree-jumpers, down there with the kid molesters (and rightfully so, imo). Now, all this said, I know Mike has good points to him and to be perfectly blunt I've come a long way in my appreciation for him as a fighter (and have been charmed a couple of times by him as a person). So, I'm just relating a story from 20 years ago, I don't necessarily feel that strongly about it now. I guess the more I age the more likely I am to give people the benefit of a doubt.
Undisputed Chamption at 22. Cleaned out the division. Not a myth. Yes, he degraded too soon. But a myth doesn't unify. Of course, I wouldn't expect you to analyze Tyson from anything resembling a detached, even keeled view point.
