Holmes was something like an 186-pound kid when he lost to Bobbick. And while I'm at it, some relatively unknown Russian guy TKO'd Lewis as an amateur. I doubt many knew that.

 

Both Vitali and Mavrovic had terrific chins .. Vitali was more proven as he fought far more and better opposition .. he took bombs from Lewis half blind with blood in his eyes .. he took the best of Sanders straight on in the first round while Corrie was fresh .. Can't really make an argument against either man ..

 

He was a big puncher with an 80% kayo record .So lets not pretend he wasn't a huge puncher, just because you failed to do your homework!

 

Did anyone know Marvis Frazier knocked Witherspoon down in 1980? At least thats what boxrec says.

The uppercut Vitali took from Lewis is what made Lewis retire.

Yes. He did also say he was aging like wine after the Tyson fight.

 

FYI. Nick Wells was a real bad azz. He was a bit undersized for the pros, but as an amateur he was a bad mofo.

Valeriy Abadzhyan. Soviet heavyweight that knocked out Lennox Lewis in October 1986. Abadzhyan was late starter - his first amateur fight had beed held when he was 17-years-old. He was really small heavyweight (about 5'11'' - 6'0''), but very tough one. Valeriy Abadzhyan finished his amateur career with 89 wins and 21 losses in his record.

Here is how he recalls his amateur win over future Olympic champion and undisputed heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis:

"As for Lewis, I've simply outsmarted him. Back then, in 1986 on the TSC Tournament his win over me would be considered an upset, because he was only 21 y.o., while I was 28. I wasn't prepared well for that fight, so I had to outsmart him (to win). He was winning the fight, but eventually I knocked him out".

 

Not sure if this has been mentioned but David Tua got knocked out in the first round in the amateurs as well. Judging by the evidence we have in the pro game Mavrovic had a very good chin, people overlooking him because he was stopped in the amateurs seems very unjust
