The problem with this era today is the level of experience is not enough to match up with guys of 35 -40 years ago or even 20 years ago.. I think Donald Curry would be tough for Spence. I think Thomas would stop Spence in about 9 rounds. It would go some rounds and Tommy would find the range and the ref would stop it. I am curious about the Porter fight. To me the Porter style is great for Spence and will give him opportunity to counter and stop Porter on a TKO.
You think it would be that hard for Hearns to find Spence? Spence would be luckly to make it out of the first 2 rounds IMO.
Spence is still a good fighter who is elusive. I don't see Hearns or anyone blasting someone like Spence out in 2 rounds since he would move and counter.
I think it's more a styles thing. Crawford could maybe put up a decent fight against Hearns, a Hearns-SRL 2 if you like although Crawfords chin is a lot more suspect than SRLs, skills a lot less proven and as long as his range is, shorter than SRL. Spence would just be tailor-made for Hearns. Floyd, Pac would probably also get blasted by Hearns. Floyd's style is also tailor-made for Hearns, Pac has the tools with the angles, power and offence but he may be too short to launch a proper attack on Hearns who fought tall. Of the recent WW greats, probably only ODLH has a shot as he was tough enough to endure the shot and had enough power to hurt Hearns. The WW's recently have been quite small except for Spence, coming up from LW and in Pac's case, Flyweight. SRL was a full-fledge WW and Hearns was a natural MW dressed as a WW.
Lol! Spence would try to find an alternative to the “Bulldozing” **** real quick in this one after a right hand or two. Hearns KO5
Spence would not go at Tommy the way Duran and Cuevas did. Both those guys were gunning for Hearns. Cuevas wanted to land that left hook since he had the power, but Duran tried and landed some nice right hands but he put himself in Tommy's range and speed. If guys came at Tommy that opened them up to him, unless they were hit and took the punch like Hagler did.
I think against guys like Spence and Floyd, they would go on the defensive and Hearns would have to go into his jabbing and setting up mode and bust them up from the outside waiting for them to get more desperate and tired and cutup, and then pore it on. I think he would eventually stop Spence. Floyd? Either late TKO or UD. But look at Benitez. Tommy was content to stay back. He did hurt his right hand in that fight, but that was a good tactic after the Hope fight for Benitez and it was 15 rounds.
