Very intriguing fight. It all depends on how much Povetkin has aged since last September. I'm looking forward to this more than Loma/Campbell. Edit: just remembered I'm in Crete when this is on. I hope they show boxing in bars over there!!
He has loads of heavyweights. He can't take them all on unbeaten routes to title shots, even with the amount of belts on the go. So if he has the fighters to make good fights who are up for taking real fights then that's all good. Plus Hughie Fury, along with many of them, is probably only on a 3 fight deal or something. I'm sure Hearn will have no problems putting Hughie in hard fights he might lose, he doesn't have to have any long term future with everybody that signs up with him. Anyway, is this fight actually happening? I just said on another thread this is the fight I was hoping for the "great" fight getting announced tomorrow.
Fair play to Hughie if this happens. He'll have some resume before long... could do with winning some of his big fights, but still
Just seeing it all online now, that it's all but confirmed. I like the fight and fair play to Hughie, he takes a lot of stick, but I'll give him a pass on fights like Norrad and Peter if every other fight is a Pulev or a Povetkin. Losing his undefeated record could prove to be a blessing in disguise for Hughie. He still has the potential and age to improve. He might take a few defeats along the way but with his style, he probably won't take a lot of punishment, physically, but while gaining experience if he's fighting at the top level. I don't think Hughie Fury will ever rule the division, but if he keeps at it and stays relevant with some half decent wins, he could still be good enough to win a title someday. That might not mean as much nowadays when you have guys like Charles Martin walking this earth like a god and picking up heavyweight titles. But back to Hughie, he might not be great, or ever going to be, but with his talent, there's more to come from him if he isn't scared to mix it with the top dogs, even if it means taking a loss now and again.
I’ve been saying for years that Hughie is a real fighting man. Watch him outbox Povetkin. He will stop the Russian late.
I think Povetkin is a terrific fighter but he only has 4-5 good rounds in him before he starts blowing big time now there’s no peds. I expect Hughie to take over and get the decision.
That inactivity too, mate. I don't follow Povetkin on social media but has he been training? A lot of unknowns there. Hughie is the bigger man and that will be a big difference maker. I remember this pic a few years ago: This content is protected Hughie will jab Povetkin's head off. Povetkin's best attribute IMO is his speed and inside fightingness. However, Fury is strong in the clinch and is excellent on the backfoot. He has all the tools to neutralise Povetkin and can do 12 rounds easily. I'm very interested in seeing the odds for this fight. I'm backing Hughie to do a number on him.
