If Tyson had fought in the 60s and 70s, would he have ever won a world title?

He'd beat Floyd and Ingo .So if Tyson s champ at the start of the 60 s , then he's got Liston challenging him . A good fight and one im not sure who to pick .
    Against a young Cassius ?
Odds are Tyson loses , unless he cracks Ali with a Cooper style left and drops him !

He was not even born until 66, so no!

But I suspect what you asking was if Tyson was around as a fighter back then, how would he have done?

I do not think he would do much, as D'Amato had to put a lot of time into him to get the best out of him. Cus would not have had the time back then, and thus Tyson probably does not crack the top 20.

I can see perhaps Mike beating Liston...not sure on that at all, though. As far as

    Ali (60s) Tko by 11

Frazier Tko 4 (though FOTC Joe knocks Mike out in 9)

    Foreman Ko by 2

    Ali (70s) Tko by 15

    Norton Tko 2

    Holmes Tko 14
    This content is protected

    others:

Jimmy Young wins by Unanimous decision 15

Shavers kayo by 3 (it's likely Shavers would have done the cute move he pulled on Ellis, which would have near exactly the same effect)

    Lyle TKO 4

    Quarry TKO 4

    Foster KO 2

    Patterson KO 2

    Cleveland TKO 8

    Folley KO 10

    Ellis TKO 7

Tyson in his prime never had the chance to prove himself against a real high calibre opponent. He made it look easy when he kayoed one after another but up against the wind he fell again and again. I don't think he would have loved to mix punches with tough guys like Bonavena, Liston or Frazier. Ernie Terrel, tall and defensive was a better boxer than the defensive Bonechrudher Smith who went the distance with a prime Tyson.
I think Tyson would've been a contender, being in the mix but never able to threathen Muhammad Ali. But he may have had a better life as the the money were fewer, Don King's not there, Cus D'amato younger, sharing stable with José Torres, on distance from golddiggers and Evander Holyfield ear.

I watched Holmes dismantle opponents in the 70s and I just can't see Mike landing flush much. Sure it only takes one punch but Norton wasn't particularly far away in power and had a very good defense. Holmes took this shots and came back hard. Mike would probably look good the first couple of rounds but by then Larry would have measured him...and Larry just LOVED to get fighters drunk. I also see Mike's amazing exuberance and crowding being his early doom at the hands of Foreman. FOTC Frazier would have been dropped perhaps even a couple of times... but I like to think I'm not alone believing that Mike couldn't hold up fifteen rounds with THAT Joe.

No. I see him losing to Liston, Foreman, Ali, Williams, Frazier, Lyle, and possibly Young.

Tyrell and Quarry didn`t win titles, do you mean Mike would have to go through them to be a contender?

He was far more skilled than Lyle and would have destroyed Young.

Terrell was WBA champ after All vacated, I don't know about Quarry but I'm sure it was either him or Elis who had it after Ali's suspension

I agree he was more skilled than Lyle. It's just a styles thing. But no I believe Young had the endurance, heart, chin, counter punching ability, etc to beat Tyson. Though I'd be rooting for Tyson. Watching Young was like watching paint dry.

I has kind of been a theme throughout history, that talent wins through at some point.

He would be primed and loaded for as long as the title was denied to him, and a plane of weakness would crop up at some point!

If he got a crack at either Floyd or Ingo no problem! I think he stops Frazier too.
