Does he though? His career has always gone like this. He was given no hope against Wilder after 2 easy tune ups and look what he did there. He also made Kitschko look silly despite what his critics say about his performance that night after being given little chance there. Whether it's Pulev, forum darling Dillian Whyte or Otto Wallin, the result will always be the same.
He’s definitely had harder sparring than this and Schwarz. Fair play to him he’s taking the absolute **** and getting paid millions for it.
It'll be interesting to see what happens with the next Forbes richest athletes list. Wilder made this year's top 100, and Fury didn't. Figures included the Wilder Fury fight. From memory Wilder was around number 50-55. Pacquiao made the top 100, Joshua was 13 and Canelo (I think) 4. Point being that if Fury is suddenly extremely well off then these pathetic fights are excusable in that sense. Hard to knock the guy if he's making an absolute mint against Schwarz level dross. But, I just find it hard to work out how he makes so much. The fights clearly don't sell well. He's not selling lots of tickets or PPV. He's not the sort of guy who has ever really looked like being a proper superstar. So would why Arum bankroll Fury to serve up boring, one sided mismatches to small, low level audiences?
Well yeah if they are going to throw money at him for fighting nobodies I guess he is going to do it, but he is embarrassing himself in the process, the fight itself is likely to be a laughing stock, exhibition like. If it’s ppv as well he is proving that he is happy to fleece the fans with this rubbish. I guess money comes before all that stuff, he said in the past he doesn’t care what people think, maybe he doesn’t? Then if the big fight happens this will evaporate, but he is right on the edge of losing a lot of respect here it that doesn’t happen. Again maybe he doesn’t care and is cashing out. I’m starting to wonder about the theory’s of him being reluctant to get in there again with wilder, its not like he has jumped at the chance to amend that draw decision. He talks a good game but his actions say otherwise, running from real challenges, chasing the cash.
There has to be method in the madness though. Remember, Arum at the time the contract was signed was calling the numbers 'bullsh*t.' I've no doubt part of the deal he's signed would include big money for Wilder rematches or Joshua fights; but I don't think he's getting mega money for one sided mismatches.
I think Eddie Hearn is an absolute s***house. Can’t stand him...however, it was interesting watching him chime in in the post fight interview with Robbie Davies Jn. Davies Jn wanted to concentrate on building towards a world title shot, but Hearn pointed out that the fans want to see him fight Ritson and it’s entertainment first and foremost. Fury has to think about his career but if he wants to keep eating at the big table, he needs to be ticking the entertainment box. I put up with the Schwarz fight but no excuse for 2 puddings in a row. He doesn’t have wars, he boxes fighters heads off so he should back himself against decent lads.
Agree with that. Fury spars the likes of Joyce and Parker for a laugh. I've got no idea what the benefit of this is, makes no commercial sense, clearly not a test of his boxing ability.. it's baffling. Surely ESPN don't see this as selling well. I could understand the need to fight an American of a decent standard - someone like Miller could probably drum up a fair bit of interest stateside. This will be like the Schwartz fight, an exhibition.
Fury is a con man. Nothing more. Milking that ESPN contract. I actually give credit to Hearn and AJ for selecting Ruiz on short notice. They could have picked someone **** like Wallin or Schwarz.
At the beginning of the year the heavyweight division was starting to get interesting. 6 months later Joshua get's battered by a little fat bloke & Fury & Wilder seem to be in competition for who can fight the biggest chump. This is outright embarrassing.
Only logical reason I can see for this is that Fury won’t KO anyone half decent so they’re getting these guys with padded records for entertaining KOs to build his profile that way...I won’t bother watching though... They’re also obviously cheap, maybe the US fighters are asking for too much money, knowing they’ll get schooled. These fights aren’t much better than David Haye’s comeback on Dave...
Ruiz is a million times better than these no hopers Fury is fighting and you obviously know it. Weird point to make.
However you dress it up, whatever positive spin anyone tries to put on it, this isn't a fight a top Heavyweight should be having when two fights previously he was robbed of the WBC title in a controversial draw. After Schwarz he proved he was in shape, proved he had the fluency back and we needed to see him step up again, even if it wasn't Wilder straight away. This will be a yawnfest, anyone who couldn't get the cauliflower faced Brazilian pubchbag out of there shouldn't be sharing the ring with Tyson Fury, especially on PPV.
