Done to death I'm sure but let's do it again. I'm going to make it slightly easier and suggest they have a 3 fight series.
    1. In the first fight I think it's more than possible Hagler comes out similar to how he did against Leonard and Duran, making some tactical mistakes and giving most of the early rounds away. Monzon keeps him at distance and times him with the right and lands most of the cleaner punches. Hagler rallies late and closes the distance and starts finding the target, but Monzon nicks a later round or two and does enough to win by split decision by a round or two. Monzon SD

    2. In the second fight, though they're both the king of the rematch, Hagler realises he has to bring the fight to Monzon from the opening round and keeps a steady pressure throughout the fight, catches some punches himself but shows his chin and shakes Monzon up several times and out-brawls him when he needs to. Hagler UD

3 The highly anticipated rubber match. I struggle with this one. I think it's possible Monzon could keep Hagler at bay for the first half of the fight, boxing at his best. I'm biased because I know more of Hagler but I have to think, if they're both at their peak in this fight, Hagler's physical strength and slightly superior chin eventually play a part and he does enough to win. Hagler UD

So Monzon or Hagler Fans, what do you reckon?

I like both these fighters. Hagler was a very versatile guy, he could do a bit of everything and he was as tough as nails. Monzon was maybe less versatile but he was the king of calm, fighting within his own system where his specialization really paid off. It's really hard to predict an outcome on such radically different fighters but I'll try.

I suspect that Hagler's tendency to give too much respect to his ATG opponents (ironic considering his great chin) might bite him in the ass here. A slower more methodical pace would suit Monzon down to the bone I believe, and I'd predict a Monzon win on points.

If Hagler got a rematch and recalibrated, and realised that he would have to take risks to win, he might be able to use his superb physicality to wear Monzon out in the later rounds.

In short, I think the OP has a fairly good grasp of how things might go. Both these guys were awesome.

    I think early-to-mid 80s Hagler was just a shade better than early-to-mid 70s Monzon.

    Marvelous by decision.

Monzon on points 15 rounds...outsmarts and out generals Hagler for most of the fight...at critical moments especially. Neither man gets seriously hurt or decked...no ko anywhere on the horizon. Monzon scores with the jab and the right with uncanny accuracy...Hagler acquits himself well, though...again,...not as effective or as ringwise as Monzon. Hagler gets confused at times...Monzon doesn't....big critical difference. Hagler finds that Monzon is not a fragile Tommy Hearns...and is superior to Ray Leonard as a middleweight. That is all I have to say about this fight....A prepared, tough and cold blooded Monzon outsmarts and outfights Hagler in a strategic contest...amen....book closed for me..I'm outta here.

There's no wrong answer. I would narrowly favor Monzon strategically but there's every chance Hagler might turn it around in a rematch. Great series.

NO way, I really don't see a case for hagler and im surprised at most people who think he would win. Monzon wins this fight pretty clearly. All you need to do is look at how hagler faired against both marcos Geraldo and Duran. Marcos had similar frame to monzon and was frustrating hagler at times. It took hagler awhile to start catching Geraldo and he was taking leather to get in from a guy who wasn't a big puncher. Monzon would frustrate hagler even more by keeping him at distance with that jab and straffing him with rights all night long. All Monzon has to do is lean back and clinch to nullify hagler here which was his bread and butter. Monzon style was just all wrong for hagler; Hagler matched up better with guys who came at him as opposed to guys who could box like Monzon and duran. To have a chance of beating Monzon, you had to apply a ton of pressure ala Briscoe!

Hagler by a slight edge, hes too tough and dynamic but I would only see him stopping monzon by a very late t.k.o. or more likely a close decision

Being tough has nothing to do with it. Hagler can be as tough as he wants be he can't deal with Monzon's style. Hagler would be hitting air repeatedly. If a lightweight in Duran frustrated him, Monzon would do far worse! Actually, I think Hearns probably would have a better chance of beating Monzon than Hagler.

I usually side towards Monzon in this. Razor close.

Monzon wanted no part of Valdez in his prime and he'd be eager to take on a prime Harler? Sure.... Rewatch "Prime" Monzon stumble around after featherfisted Licata round after round or struggle with Bouttier and then rewatch Hagler beat Sibson/Scypion/Hamsho half to death and get back to me.

I think Hagler batters him pretty badly. Opinions vary, I understand, but the hype Monzon gets from smart folks always surprises me.

Yeah, great way to describe Marvin Hagler. "Not that good."

Watch haggler struggle with feather fisted Geraldo and small light weight Duran! Briscoe hit harder than haggler and he couldn't dent Monzon, I doubt hagler could!
