Between George foreman and sonny liston who would do better against today's heavyweights

Liston does well but George better .

 

Foreman translates to the modern game better by a clear margin for me.

What I am referring to was a consistent pattern, It was as if you could put foot prints in a circle, Liston followed him in a circular motion. Heck change directions!
Doesn't mean he would cut the ring off, rather don't be predictable for 6 rounds.

& yes I think Fury would possibly make Liston look ordinary, not because of his swift feet, but how incapable Liston was in adapting to fights. He wore them out or outgutted , not outthink.

 

They both tear through it so its irrelevant.

 

Liston would do better from a stylistic standpoint, but Foreman would cope with success better.

 

Both would do well. Only fighter I see them giving them giving problems is Fury.

 

Well, does anyone think Liston would not destroy Frazier and Norton too? Liston had Patterson, who wasn't quite as good as Frazier, but he also Ko'd him twice in one round.

The difference between the two is this:

Liston had good conditioning and energy in the later rounds, and he was a better boxer. He also had better range and defense, both of which are needed today.

Power and Chins look about even.

Foreman had better intangibles.

Few heavyweights test intangibles today. Maybe Ruiz jr does, and Johsua can, but the others don't. IMO Liston would do better today.

I could see Liston at 225-230 today. Foreman around the same weight. IMO Liston due to his bigger gas tank would carry and fight with the extra weight a bit better.

 

I am amazed that so many people are believers in Fury. Okay, he beat an Old Wlad who was 39 years old! ( Fury later tested potted for PED's ) and deserved the decision over Wilder who we know can't box, but outside of this his resume is thin, and judging by his slection of his opponent since his comeback, shall remain thin. After beating Schwartz, his next pick is Wallin, who's rated #48 at Box Rec. Fury has gone into belt milk mode, and people are still paying to see it. I expect him to come in fat, run his mouth and beat someone 90% of the fans never saw fight.

If Wilder gets taken out by a Joe average top 30-15 type of contender, the value of what Fury did vs. Wilder will be diminished.

 

This. Liston and Foreman excelled against taller heavier opponents, since they were easier targets.

 

It does not matter, pick either one and they clean out these bums today, they don't have the heart, the stamina, and what it would take to dig in and win a war with those 2.

Seriously? Out of Foreman and Liston, Liston was the one who was incapable of adapting? Watch his bouts with Williams and Machen. Conversely watch Foreman's bouts with Ali and Young then tell us who has the adaption issues.

 

Considering the majority of heavies today are either plodding beer belly types or robotic muscle heads with poor stamina--considering that they all (generally) lack defense/head movement/speed of hand or foot--considering that many of them fight at a relatively slow measured pace and rarely throw more than 3 punches in a combination (if they bother to throw combinations at all)--considering all tbe ducking and 4 belts, powerhouse specimens like these 2 would have no trouble at all adjusting, bulking up to 230ish (they were discouraged from lifting weights and encouraged to stay trim and lighter) and starting a reign of terror. The slower pace and big targets would suit them well.

Even fury and wilder at their best couldnt be made more than 50:50 odds. Fury has proven to be quite the ducker and is a mental head case and constantly out of shape. Wilder has friggtening power and works hard but is very predictable and has some of the same poor qualities/habits listed above. Whyte's slugging style gets him destroyed by either man. Parker would trouble them for a bit but his lack of aggression would cost him many rounds. Ruiz lools good so far but we'll have to see how he holds up, only 1 semi elite win so far.
