What were Julio Cesar Chavez Sr.’s flaws as a boxer, if he even had any?

More excuses. Duran was good enough to win those titles plus, he gave haggler a tough fight. To say he was past it against Benitez is exactly what it is, an excuse! BTW, Chavez would have beaten Ortiz as well LOL

LOl, score it round by round, Duran gave up most of the later rounds; You could make the case he gave all of the championship rounds, so by the end it was a really close fight. Even the commentators(pro Duran) said that Duran not fighting in the last round might impact the scoring. In the end I had Duran winning but it was a really close fight.

He barely beat Leonard and ive seen the fight and scored it numerous times. I had Duran winning by maybe a round or two

No need. I've watched Duran-Leonard 1 countless times, just like everybody else. You're the first person in history to ever claim it was close. Highly COMPETITIVE, yes, but with a clear winner. Leonard himself has said it a thousand times - "Duran kicked my ass in that first fight."

Your just going based on feelings; ive actually scored round by round. Duran winning by two rounds makes it close in my book

Let's consider that Duran won the middleweight championship over Barkley when he was over 10 years past his prime, and gave arguably the greatest middleweight of all time a tough fight, while well over 5 years past his prime.

That'd be like Chavez of 2000 moving up to 160 and beating Canelo, and like the Chavez of 1995 being capable of giving Monzon a tough fight at 160.

I think Duran best summed it up in recent years when asked who have won. He said something to the effect of, "Julio says he could have beaten me, but he knows deep down that I'm HIS champion."

We'll pack in, shall we? You mentioned objective analysis earlier but just keep ignoring valid points and observations and replying with facile, illogical points and seemingly because you don't rate Duran that highly and think Chavez was at least as good. Crack on, just don't waste any more of my time.

Chavez might well have beaten Ortiz, I couldn't care less. He was a great fighter, they both were. I don't think Duran was some sort of unbeatable god, I've tried throughout the thread to give a balanced opinion and a bit of insight but you obviously just think I'm biased and to say I think the same of you is a feck-eyed understatement. Peace.

I just like it how these Duran huggers have every excuse in the book for Duran losing by claiming he was past his best. Yet, these same Duran worshippers give him all the credit in the world for beating fighters at the higher weight class and they use those same wins to put Duran on a pedestal as this invincible fighter who cant be beat at 135. LOl, no objectivity

Chavez-Ortiz is at least a matchup where a case can be made for Chavez.

He has no case for beating a prime Duran. Can't outfight him, nor outbox him.

You have far more of an agenda than Tin and I do.

I'm a FAN of Chavez. He was one of the most awesome offensive forces the sport has ever seen. But he has no argument for THE BEST of all time, while Duran does. There's levels.

YOU are the on a crusade to diminish Duran to bolster your non-existent case for Chavez being better.

I do rate Duran highly, I just don't rate his fans to highly or smart. In fact, I rate Duran only slightly higher than Chavez; again, that has no bearing on how a fight would play out between them at 135. Your claiming I didn't offer any logical points but I didn't see you stating any either. Where you base your opinion that Duran wouldn't have been outclassed by whitaker is pure speculation. I gave you fights where Duran struggled against slick elusive fighters(Benites) and all you refute it with is the old boring "past his prime" excuse! We just have to Agree to disagree. Have a good one!

Body of work suggests that Duran is more than "slightly" ahead of Chavez.

There's a rather overwhelming gap in their wins and performances.

What makes you different is that you're delusional. Cause I've talked to COUNTLESS Chavez fans over the years who are objective enough to admit that Duran was better.
