Yes I looked at that thread. Just to clarify, you think Sonny was not shot when he beat Henry Clark but he was shot when he lost to Leotis Martin?
One of Frazier's biggest boosters here is Choklab he maintains Frazier was damaged goods after FOTC.I say he looked much the same as ever in the second Quarry fight 3 years after FOTC .Frazier won the FOTC, no if's no buts.
By their second fight Quarry was just as past it as Frazier was. And so was Jimmy Ellis. All three were shop worn in the rematches with Frazier. This is why they were selected. Ellis and Quarry were familiar foes of similar mileage. Shopworn fighters can still have a good fight. Think of the rematches Hearns had with Leonard or Duran had with Leonard. Then you put Leonard in with Terry Norris and see what happens. It’s all about levels dear chap.
I think Frazier looked as good in their second fight as he did in their first,I did not mention Ellis. Quarry wasn't shop worn, 6 months earlier he had one of his biggest victories kaoing Shavers in1 round, less than a year earlier he had handily trounced Ron Lyle! Quarry was the 4th ranked contender!
Yes he did, but they both declined. Quarry took a beating winning his warm up fight only weeks earlier against joe Alexander. So sure, Frazier looked sensational. Quarry was damaged goods too. You can be a good fighter and still be damaged goods. If the guy you fight is just as faded nobody will notice.
Neither Frazier or Quarry was shot in1974 . I'm no expert, but I flatter myself I can see any appreciable marked evidence of decline in a fighters reflexes, speed of hand and durability.
I agree it was a good fight. Perhaps Frazier’s last. He obviously had enough left to fight as well as he did against another declining fighter.
Quarry didn't take a beating that's just nonsense, he got knocked down in the 1 st round, knocked Alexander down twice in the second and stopped him! Watch the fight! This content is protected
As Don Dunphy says “Quarry’s not the fighter he was of the Shavers and Ron Lyle fights”. This was just weeks before fighting Frazier. A novice teeing off on Quarry here.
Ali who was much faster than Liston couldn't time Fraziers bobbing and weaving in fotc, he was exceptionally hard to catch regularly
