Don't even compare the two. Dinamita was a much more dynamic boxer than Canelo. Better counterpuncher, better combinations, better ring IQ, better stamina. Canelo only has better head movement, and a strong enough chin to not be constantly decked to the canvas.

Marquez is the superior boxer. He's been able to do more with much less speed and size.

Canelo is fast as hell and he's been the bigger guy in 99% of his fights.

Yes, but Canelo may be actually be more well rounded. Marquez does his thing (counterpunching aggressive fighters) better than anything Canelo does. If you allow to get into a rhythm and settle into his area of expertise and specialty then he's a better technician than Canelo by a substantial margin. But Marquez is not well versed in taking the lead. He doesn't really know how to do it. And in his career it came back to bite him in the ass a few times.

Canelo is more well rounded, but doesn't really excel in any particular area the way Marquez does. I will say his handspeed is pretty damn good for a MW.

He's also far better at paying off corrupt judges and not nearly as good as Marquez is taking PED's undetected.

For the life of me, I just can't see anything even approaching a great fighter when I watch Canelo, and I never have done. Don't get me wrong - he's a quality fighter and has carved out a better career than I thought he would back in 2013 when Mayweather put that cigarette out on his backside and halted the hype train. But with a few more competent judges sitting ringside for his fights, his record could be looking very different, and I feel he's profited from getting some big names at the right time. Even then, I just tend to find his performances a little predictable, cumbersome and underwhelming for a supposedly great fighter.

I give Marquez a clear edge in boxing IQ, footwork and counter-punching, and favour his combination hitting, too. Canelo probably has the better chin and a little more raw power. Defence is an area where Canelo has admittedly improved massively in recent years - I'll call that one a draw. Marquez had better control of range and exchanges in that regard, whereas Canelo has been moving better at the waist and with his head recently (a stark contrast to the days of a shot to smithereens Mosley being able to land his jab at will). I also think Marquez was the more clinical finisher, despite his overall more methodical style. Canelo is yet to produce a performance which I'd put in the same category as a couple of Marquez's against Pacquiao, Casamayor, Peden, Medina etc., where he really showed everything good about the sweet science.

But I am a huge Marquez fan, not so much for Canelo...So there could be some unconscious bias on my part. For whatever reason, I just don't rate Canelo as highly as most others.

p4p power? Heavily disagree. Marquez is a noticeably harder puncher. And chin is nearly as good, but with much better stamina and physical constitution.

How Canelo is bigger puncher than Marquez? He couldn't even hurt shot Cotto who was like 3 times smaller than him. He couldn't even slightly hurt beyond shot Mosley. Better version of Mosley and much better version of Cotto were dropped and hurt multiple times by former flyweight Manny Pacquiao. Canelo is far from big puncher. Of course, he can KO glass-jawed fighters like Kirkland, Khan or Fielding, but he never stopped durable top 10 opponent in his entire career.

You might don't know boxing if you think that was a prime Canelo, Canelo did better against the likes of Trout Lara and Jacob's, then Marquez did against Norwood Chris jhon and Bradley
