    Difficult one.

I would not think it good practice to pick Ruiz because Joshua screwed up against him, but at the same time I don't have a template for a fighter like Baer beating him.

His only loss is of course that MD loss to Parker.

I guess that if you put a gun to my head I would pick Baer, based on Ruiz's very small number of fights against top ten guys, but I would much rather wait to see Ruiz in a few more fights first!

Baer by late stoppage in a close fight.

Ruiz has a field day. A total and utter clowning. Ref or corner stoppage with Max's face turned to mince meat.

How I see it. Baer would get punished, unless he got lucky and managed to clip Ruiz with a big haymaker.

One of the possible outcomes to Ruiz's career, is that the Joshua win turns out to have been an aberration.

If he never beats another ranked contender, and suffers a couple of bad losses, then those picking him here would start to look increasingly unwise.

It's always problematic when considering a guy mid-career, especially one who just had a great taste of success. One just has to take the form they showed in their best fight. Ruiz showed hand-speed, pop, composure, fighting will, chin, countering abilities, a fair bit of stamina and closing skills. If he decides to devote the rest of his career to booze, broads and blow, that is up to him.

I think Ruiz would win. Aside from being caught cold, which is a possibility.

But other than that I think Baer is out of his depth, Ruiz would come forward with his fast, measured hands and tag Baer repeatedly. Baer had a good chin but it would soon be an ugly fight with Baer throwing with intent to seriously hurt but not landing too much, however what he did land I would expect to hurt and possibly drop Ruiz

    Here I disagree.

History is littered with fighters who had one big win, which was not representative of their overall level.

This might be a good candidate for being such a case.

Personally I suspect that Ruiz is somewhere between what I just described, and what you think he is!

For whatever it is worth, Baer would have battered Joshua that night as well!

    Ruiz would come forward!

That is a very bad plan against Baer.

Even Joe Louis knew better than to come forward against Baer!

Like he made Joseph Parker quit?

Ruiz did something incredible against Joshua, but please let's keep him in perspective!

There is serious talk of George Foreman training Joshua for his comeback.

    That could be interesting!

You don’t know what I’m talking about because you haven’t watched Ruiz’s fights.
