In todays area from 154-175 does anyone beat a prime Roy Jones jr?

Who would give him the toughest fight in the current era of boxing? Side note- where do you guys rank his hand speed in the history of the sport?

I don't believe so. Jones Jr. had too much speed and power for today's fighters.

Although I'd say the one with the best chance is Callum Smith. He's huge with good timing, if he caught Jones he could KO him. I'd say he'd clean up MW, LHW and SMW tho.

GGG, The Nail, Kovalev, Beterbiev, BJS all have a VERY good chance at beating him. ESPECIALLY with proper testing.

 

Nah no one beats him. RJJ was a special fighter no fighter 154-175 is special.

 

BJS? Who has he beaten to even be considered elite? Or even close to elite? Nobody even close. BJS is a myth.

Kovalev and GGG have the best chance to push it closer.

 

Prime Kovalev and Adonis Stevenson are the only guys who had a legit shot at 175.. Although Stevenson more than likely would have ducked.. Andre Ward vs RJJ at 168 would have been a good fight.. at 160 the only guy I can see was Sergio Martinez.. GGG was too slow and Canelo fights very similar to James Toney and can envision a similar result..

I think Andre Ward might have beaten him. Possibly Kovalev from the 1st Ward fight or earlier. Not very probable but Andre Dirrell in his prime may have been able to put up a decent fight, his speed was unreal. Chad Dawson and his range might have posed Jones some issues too.

 

Funny how you mention Kovalev but not the guy who beat him twice before (Beterbiev) or Gvozdyk who’s every bit as talented as Sergey. Wonder why! Lol

And GGG is still undefeated BTW But nice try.

 

I believe I believe you have misunderstood me and jumped the gun.

I know that Beterbiev beat Kovalev twice in the amateurs, but I feel that Kovalev has had a better pro career and has better skills and ability and jab to make it a competitive fight against Roy Jones Jr. than Beterbiev has. I guess it's the triangle theory all over again again. Head to head I think Kovalev, but I wouldn't call you crazy or even 'out there' for saying Beterbiev.

Overall, I think anyone one of these guys can make it a slightly competitive fight at the most, but I would still have Jones Jr. as the winner by KO or wide decision.

I too believe GGG won both fights against Canelo and have said that many times on here. The first fight was a clear decisive win, and although the second fight was closer, it was still a GGG win.
