That is far from a competitive fight.

At most Ruiz would get a KD like Buddy or Galento and go 7 rounds.

I agree that history is filled with guys who had one big win. Then again, how many "really big" wins did Baer have?

    Was it one or two?

Realistically, truthfully, ignoring all the fan-boy nonsense, Max Baer had one great year that ran from June 1933 to June 1934.

It began the night he beat Schmeling (a Hall of Famer) - the best win of his career - and ended the night he beat Carnera (who isn't).

Otherwise, he lost to Uzcudan. He lost to Loughran. He split two fights with Risko. He split two fights with Schaaf. He split two fights with Farr. He lost to Nova twice. He lost to Les Kennedy. He lost to Louis. He lost to Braddock.

Is Ruiz as good as Risko and Schaaf and Farr and Nova and Les Kennedy and Braddock and Uzcudan? Let's be honest, it didn't take superman to beat Max Baer.

For all the accolades Baer gets, he had ONE GREAT year. In nearly 80 pro fights, I believe he beat one hall of famer (Schmeling).

Other than the 12-month span where Baer beat Schmeling and Carnera, Baer was basically a 50-50 fighter when he faced a ranked opponent.

So I wouldn't "poo-poo" Andy Ruiz against Baer. Because Andy Ruiz might be having a "great" year, too. And Joshua will probably be in the Hall someday, too, like Schmeling.

I think once you beat a Hall of Famer like Klitschko and you make six successful heavyweight title defenses, you can't call that guy an ABERRATION.

Joshua had a solid heavyweight championship reign.

How many successful defenses did Baer have, again? None?

How many Hall of Famers did Baer beat again? One (the same number Joshua has beaten so far)?

Max Baer's career was considered a huge disappointment at the time. He lost a lot of fights everyone thought he should win. I don't know that Baer ever scored an upset win. But he died relatively young, and I think people sort of appreciated him more after he was gone. They looked at the positives and ignored all the times he blew it against what was perceived to be lesser competition.

In terms of aberrations, Baer was arguably a bigger ABERRATION than Joshua could possibly be considered. Joshua's been upset exactly once. Baer was upset close to a dozen times.

Ruiz is a real boxer with skills, the other guy wouldn't get close to a ranking today.

Ruiz often wins by making his opponent quit. Joshua wasn't the first.

Did that old-timey announcer say NIP UPS at the 54-second mark? (LOL)

Those crazy gals walking around in the one-piece bathing suits with their nips up. Gotta love the 1930s.

And? Lomachenko made 4 people in a row quit. Doesn't mean he'd make Duran quit.

    And Joshua didn't quit...

More than 1. I can think of 2 of the top of my head.

    Levinsky and Schmeling

Ruiz looks impressive in that clip but without a Nat Fleischer or Ray Arcel quote there’s really no way to be sure.

    Baer=Duran

No, he's just a technically deficient guy who would be forced to quit like Joshua.

He wouldn't be forced to do ****.

You make it out like the best Baer wouldn't be his best win.
