I know his affiliation with snickers has been "widely" publicized, but does anyone have information on his diet? I read that he's started to train early, but if he's consuming 6000 calories of junk daily he'll never reduce his weight. Does anyone know if he's hired a nutritionist with his new found wealth? This is the opportune time for Andy to experiment with his weight and gauge his performance relative to his first encounter with Joshua since he is fighting the same opponent back to back.
Ruiz was born big and will never be slim. He was gifted with speed and one of the best chins in boxing history His weaknesses in terms of boxing is his feet are fairly static and he's a bit of a come forward plodder but he's no idiot to how to position himself and move his head for defence especially in trades Ruiz is a dark horse nobody saw coming. I think he'll beat AJ again. Keep that pressure on a backpedalling AJ early in till he starts to fade then go in for the kill.
If Andy decides to come in at around the same weight for the rematch I'll be rooting for Joshua this time. Make no mistake, Joshua is working on bettering himself and that alone should be a warning to Ruiz that what worked the first time may not work this time. What happens if Ruiz is taken into the latter stages of the fight carrying excess weight? How about taking a little pride in your appearance for God's sake, you are the heavyweight champ of the world after all!
I watched Douglas V Holyfield last night and was shocked at how ‘in shape’ out of shape Douglas was compared to today’s standard of fat heavyweights It’s been said already but for the sake of organ health, joint health and general longevity, fighters shouldn’t be carrying so much excess weight on their frames.
Ruiz should have been disqualified at the weigh I am a fan of Ruiz for many reasons, but am especially tickled how he distresses some people with his appearance. In our age of narcissism, superficiality, and social media he is a breath of fresh air and demonstrates how substance is more important than style. Joshua certainly takes pride in his appearance and "fat boy" obliterated him.
This is not about superficiality, it's about optimization. It's about Andy giving himself the best possible chance at victory. Even though Andy won the first fight i'm convinced his obesity affected his performance. He may have avoided being knocked down if he were lighter and quicker to evade.
Here’s a thought, suppose an Andy Ruiz Jnr with more nutritional discipline was actually 15-20% better than the fat version?
